Yes, GP, I'm ripping off the title of your thread.

In the wake of Sonic Generations, and with the long history of the Mario series, I think that the next platformer should be a Mushroom Kingdom version of this.

Since Mario doesn't really have two forms ("Generations"), and because Sonic already took the name, we can't really call it "Super Mario Generations." I was thinking "Dimensions" instead, since it deals with two different gameplay styles (2D and 3D)

Onto the actual game. Help me out and pitch suggestions.

Story

I'll get to this later.

Gameplay

More on this later, but basically there are two modes of gameplay: 2D and 3D. In 2D mode, you play as you do as of Super Mario World; no ground pound, one hit kills without an item, yadda yadda. In 3D, you play exactly as you do in Super Maro 64. 8 health wedges, wall jumps and ground pounds, yadda yadda.

Any specific suggestions?

Toad Town Mall

A large building in the center of Toad Town, which basically acts as part of the primary hub of the game in the Wii-U version (In the 3DS version, there's only one "shop" in the Select Level screen), it's pretty much what you think it is. From here, you can buy items that you can use along the way in any level. Most items cost ordinary coins to buy, while others cost Star Coins, blue coins, or star bits; some are only available if you collect a coupon in a specific level, and certain ones are even free of any charge. Here is a list of all the shops in Toad Town:

Item Shop (Shop #101)
Buy certain items that can be used in any level.

Record Store (Shop #102)
Buy tracks of music that can be played at any time (Only if you buy the MP3 player in the Item Shop. Otherwise, you can only listen to them in the record store itself)

Shop #103

Empty; contains a 1-UP Mushroom and two Super Mushrooms.

Wario's Minigame Palace (Shop #201)

What you think it is. Basically, you can play a myriad of minigames within this little store; ranging from Kart races to home run derbies to Mario Party-style challenges. The only four-player portion of the game.

Clothing Boutique (Shop #202)

Kinda like a cross between the clothing stores in the Mario and Luigi series and those in the Mario and Sonic games, you can dress up Mario, Luigi, or your Mii in various outfits that not only change their appearance, but also change their stats. Clothes usually cost more than items.

Star Shop (Shop #301)

Part Clothing Boutique, part Item Shop, this only opens up when you have mustered the capabilities to get a high rank on every level. Stuff here is really expensive, but super-useful.

Library (Store #302)

Read up on stuff ranging from newspapers broadcasting events in Mario's history to books that give hints to how to beat a tricky level. Renting a book costs 10 coins.

More shops later.

Item List

This list is by no means finished, but for now, I'll confirm the following. Note that some items are only available freely in certain levels, unless you buy them at the Toad Town Shops (Cost for shops is given).

Re: Mario Platformer Idea

I spend two hours making this.

TWO WHOLE HOURS.

And everyone but GP completely ignores it.

Unless one or more of us gets into game design, gets into Nintendo, and makes it happen.
