What is the best mainstream Mario game

What do you think is the best mainstream mario game.

I think its Super Mario Bros 3 for 2D games

and

Super Mario Galaxy 2 for 3D Games

However the lasting appeal of Super Mario Bros 3 is better, its that great.

For me it's probably a tie between Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy. Super Mario Galaxy 2 is close behind since it's really just Galaxy with new levels and a worse hub(I still love it a lot).

My favourite will always be Super Mario Bros. 2 (aka USA). Sunshine would be a close second. Both of these games are very underrated (as it appears that too many people dislike changes), and I really liked the unique appeal of them. I especially wish that Nintendo would make a sequel or at least a remake for SMB2.

Super Mario Galaxy (1). I have good memories of playing through this game all day and night, and it was my first Wii game.

I think SMB3 actually put a standard on the series. It was an absolutely fun, challenging and brilliant game

Overall, I can't say until I get a chance to play 3D Land and compare it to others in the series, but as of right now, my favorites are SMB (tied with SMB 3) and Galaxy 2.
