To be honest, I get the feeling that Camelot will make use of it to making more costumes for the Miis. Since they're not implementing their own made characters in the game like in the past MT and MG games they made, I'd imagine that they are enjoying themselves a bit too much with the Mii customization.
Stages would be nice to see (like retro stages). I still like to think that having DLC characters would be nice as well (though it seems unlikely with Nintendo in general).

That's up to how Nintendo think about it, whether they do think subseries characters (including Paper, Tennis, Yoshi games etc) are okay or not. They aren't Mario characters in a narrow way, or they are as they exist in the same world with Mario members.
In my thoughts, since the staff already allow it, it's a weird thing to ask them to stop it from now on. The other realistic problem is subseries don't have own spinoff line.
In Mario's case, Luigi is the only other playable character in most main games (uh, though it's not a good thing actually), so maybe Luigi is the equal protagonist in a general view.Koopaul said:

I don't think it's bad to play with subseries characters, they bring diversity and value for one game. Anyway, we do know subseries characters shouldn't be too many in a Mario roster, if we only worry about other original character can't appear.

As for other Kongs, Dixie was there to be Diddy's partner when DK was kidnapped. According to the story Diddy didn't even want Dixie to come along! She forced her way in.
In DKC3 DK and Diddy went off to explore the Northern Kremisphere without Dixie leaving her behind to team up with Kiddy Kong.
So there you go plenty of evidence that plainly states Diddy is DK's partner.

Honestly, a Goomba would be better than more Kongs. Unless the kong absolutely fits the game type. I actually would find it amusing to see a Goomba playing.

In Brawl, despite arguing individual seats for subseries, Diddy is qualified as the second notable character. Spinoffs don't matter if rosters aren't fixed, while Smash series ask for "representives".
The last DK spin-off I remember was that bongo jet pack racing game. And I don't remember that turning out so well. Maybe because the only two notable DK characters are DK and Diddy. Being a Subseries, they put them with Mario because most people only care about those two.
