Oh yeah but at least accusations of "he's boring" I think that's more valid than the others, and that's also common within the Mario fandom too.

It's rare if comedy is made out of those negative assumptions of Mario, because most of the time I also dislike them. Like for example, Grand Theft Mario is somehow funny in a few ways, although there are still parts I didn't really like.

@El Zorro It'll probably displease some fans of the forum but I do strongly dislike Sonic, partially out of that rivalry he had with Mario and it just... never seemed to go away. as I've always ridiculed Sonic since childhood. I know in real life Mario and Sonic wouldn't even try to scratch each other and they'd go out for tacoes, but I like the narrative that the two despise each other too, probably because I know who's really going to win anyway. But I don't like Sonic's personality. I don't like his "look how cool I am", the "in-your-face" design with the skinny appendages and scowling monoeye, the small side-ways mouth, his spiky punk-like hair, and I don't like his voice though it fits him. I'm not a fan of the gameplay being way too fast and punishing you for being fast by spawning enemies on you, and I don't like how it grades your performance every level. The music can be decent but in Smash Bros. I just go "ewww" a lot with the vocals especially when I hear corny lyrics like "WHAT GOES UP MUST COME DOWN". Sonic is so over-the-top with "I'M SO COOL". I also don't like most of the characters either. They just look and sound annoying. I know I had negative experiences with them in Sonic & Sega All Stars Transformed too so it's not like I haven't "experienced" them. I try to like some, but...

@winstein But I do point out that the foundations of the "comedy" which we all don't like is associated with reasons people don't like Mario. They're both set on ignorant knowledge of the character and so it somehow comforts me that people that profess about hating Mario don't know what they're talking about. I mean, feel free to hate Mario but at least base your opinions on facts and fair explanations. You can say he's annoying, has a bland and basic desisn and playstyle, and has a stupid offensive accent, fair game. But to call him a proponent of drug abuse or animal abuse or being an exploitative jerk to Peach/Yoshi/Luigi/Toad is just baseless. Or to say, "he's fat" well I'd counter that his not being an idealized figure in gaming is *why* I like him because video games is chock full of idealized characters. He's no Nathan Drake unlike a lot of male protagonists.
