Creative writing is a fun class, don't get me wrong, but reading other people's dreadful works in high school was a pain in the ass.

What was a real pain in the ass was having to look at every fucking sentence and find some secret hidden meaning as if everything was some complicated allegory. "You see, if Jimmy is walking down the street, it's actually symbolic of him just walking his path in life -" no. Shut up.

For me, that's literature class in a nutshell. Probably the most boring class I ever took, even rather take a math class over it because at least it does a better job of keeping me awake. None of the stories I read are compelling and interesting to read.

My literature class was thankfully just part of English class but I always hated how we were told what kinds of stories to like. I think it really ruins stories and literature when you're being told "This story good because famous writer, this story bad because atheist writer."
