I just want to know what's going on in the books because, while I had them and am a bit familiar with the series (and there's an animated series too, as I recall?), I never knew what's really going on since the books and animation were all in French.

Really? The ones I have are all in English. (Albeit some are in British English [Is that the right term?], but this doesn't change much.) They're published by Little, Brown.

Yeah, because my mom enjoyed these books and my brother knows a fair bit of French, so kind of my brother's thing I guess? I also had Asterix books in French, but I did read the British English variants (with American English having came out relatively recently). Think I tried looking for English Tintin at one point, but guess I'll keep looking!
But yeah, British English is the right term given there's a few speech and slang differences that does make it feel slightly different at points, but you'll understand it well enough.
