Awards Killing Game 2x2: Moon of Hope (Game Thread) - Day 4: Lunary Cliffs

Oh yes, I would like to also grab a blade from the armory and stab Lee for scaring me during the power outage with his armor.
You jump tackle and begin to brutally stab Lee in front of everyone, but as you're about to run him through with the blade, it also vanishes.

...did you guys have too much of that red sauce I sometimes used to get from chinese restaurants with the crab rangoons? Fah.

Would they even deliver to here? Hm. I know what I'm doing Night 6...

That wraith said we could use the Graveyard and Crypt cameras for this. Fascia understands it better than I do; where we used to reside, there are a lot of doors that act like these cameras.

Does using a Pixilator leave any Darklight residue on the corpus of the person passing through it?

If someone wanted to teleport a dead or unconscious body through one, what would they have to do in order to not get teleported with the body? Would they stand behind the camera and hit a button, or shine a light on it?

Is the circular wound in Miss Porticia's back consistent with being pierced by a rock spire? Is it more akin to a sword or lance of some kind from the Armory? Since there's an axe noticeably missing from there, could we also compare the other wounds on her body to anything that looks like that?

You pass through the Crypt/Graveyard camera, and it does not.

Tanner pops out from behind you at the Crypt, and states that provided the camera is on and both have been activated at least once, the Pixelator flash is instantaneous when the button is pushed or darklight is flashed onto it, which requires you to stand in front of it. With how the cameras are each positioned, its rather hard to avoid being transported when its powered and activated.

You compare the large, prominent wound to a few different weapons in the Armory. The depth of the wound is enough to puncture her lungs, and the rock spires are too jagged to leave a clean, cylindrical and internally curved wound which goes that deep. It's not really close to any of the swords or lances at a glance. You might need to be more specific.

You dig up Victor and fling him into one of the rock spires from the Cliffside. He slumps over the surface, and catches quite easily. He sustains scratches and cuts from the spire consistent with the minor wounds on Portricia's body, but then due to inconsistencies in the exact physics of which you have no way of controlling, he tumbles into the abyss, out of view.

Tanner says he's not getting that.

This is shot in the darky, but we might as well look at the remaining eyes in case they were used against Porticia. It was nice of her to have kept a diary to make this easy on me. Lets see... maybe just three for now.

Check the ghost eyes of Quarry Pit, Roundhouse and West Gallery.

I'd like to check the Hydro Generator for any evidence of tampering
You examine the Hydro Generators. You find that the rim of one of the basins is cold, and there's a small, soggy piece of cardboard paper caught in one of the generator turbines. You can't make out anything on it. It glows under darklight. There's a bit of dirt in here tracked from the adjacent Under the Ice.

Check the ghost eyes of Quarry Pit, Roundhouse and West Gallery.
You check for holes in these rooms. Indeed, you find them in the Roundhouse and West Gallery as described, shining darklight on the hidden holes in the walls. Well not really the gallery one, since someones previously removed all the paintings in here. You fail to find a hole which glows with an eye in the Quarry Pit at all.

What is the condition of the Rumpus Room overall, and does the teddy bear have an eye in it? Fascia has lots of questions... I can hear them all.

Does the cardboard paper seem to have jammed anything, or does it appear that the generators corresponding to the Amethyst Wing power were compromised?

The trolley in the Dark Lab - would any of the residents happen to know where we could find similar trolleys in the facility? And, is the Plant Nursery missing only one trolley, or several? Could they fit a dead or unconscious body on them?

Non è bello... it's hard to keep up. Fascia's better at using lots of words than I am, now. I'm happy to see it, so I'm okay overall.

You examine the Rumpus Room. The giant red teddy bear has been overturned, and some of the other plushies have been shuffled around. Wet footprints leading from the Solarium door fade quickly on the carpet.

Lord Boo-Boo Cuddly Bear! Thy eye hath been moonslurpethed!!!

There is a small tear in the large red teddy bear's face, and one of the buttons is missing. It seems too small for an eye, and none is present. However, there is a small carved hole in the wall behind where the bear normally sits. It has no eye in it.

Does the cardboard paper seem to have jammed anything, or does it appear that the generators corresponding to the Amethyst Wing power were compromised?
You have no clue how to tell which generator and basin corresponds to which wing without a diagram or blueprint. It doesn't appear the paper has jammed anything. One basin however has small crystals of ice leftover on its rim.

The trolley in the Dark Lab - would any of the residents happen to know where we could find similar trolleys in the facility? And, is the Plant Nursery missing only one trolley, or several? Could they fit a dead or unconscious body on them?
These trolleys are ubiquitous, and can be found in a few different rooms: the Workshop, the Container Yard, the Maintenance Hub, the Greenhouse, the Plant Nursery, and both Labs. The Plant Nursery has no trolleys left, but it had only one on previous days. You can't tell if any of the other rooms besides the Greenhouse (which only has one) are missing one, as there are a few in each. You could probably fit a body on one, but it would hang over visibly unless covered.

Check Cliffside for evidence of grappling hook shenanigans
There's a rope hanging from the cliffside, but that was present on a previous day.

Is the stained purple water in the Solarium closest to the Pixilator?

The curve of the wound... is it akin to a cutlass?
Fascia agrees that she wants to envision the curve better. If it punctured the lungs, it's best to understand the extent of the work the previous artist performed on the piece.

Does the amount of blood on Miss Porticia's back suggest that the wound was made while she was still alive? Would it have been the killing blow, or is it inconclusive?

Lastly... I believe she had some bruises. Are those consistent with sledgehammer hits, or do they look nothing like that? Did Victor have similar bruises from his toss?

Comparing puddles from two sides of the room, one closest to the pixilator and one furthest, you can conclude the water is most purple closest to the device.

It seems a standard cutlass is too thin to make the entry hole, but does curve similarly.

Having seen more direct and targeted comparisons from your testing of the art medium with bodies, Vigil states he thinks the puncture wound was the killing blow.

They look nothing like that. The bruising is pretty much all over the body, but the internal bleeding low. Victor's injuries look similar, but with much, much less blood due to being dead for longer.

I'm hoping no one is thinking I'm an accomplice. I had less than zero interest in that. How to prove it, how to prove it... Oh, I guess the minecart would do, since the tools should be in it. Where did it go though... Wait did someone say Portricia had a curved stab wound?

Investigate the Pit Mine. Aside from general information, be sure to look for hammers, pickaxes, and the minecart which formerly contained the iron meteorite as well.
Confirm that the Maintenance Hub has very few hammers and pickaxes. If hammers or pickaxes are found in the Pit Mine, compare them to the ones in the Maintenance Hub to confirm their origin.

Compare a pickax to the wounds on Portricia.

...Forgive me, Master Gadd's subjects, mine dulcet and oft-remarked "antiquated" tones beseech you for forgiveness. In the interest of yond frozen and yet rapidly decreasing time...

Vigil puffs a pink cigar, and then smoke fills Tanner's face, to which he says "...not again..."

I shall borrow Tanner's tongue once more.

Using Tanner's voice to recount his night, Vigil speaks.

Right. Yeah. I'm gonna have to use mouthwash after this. I start my night with preparing another freshly dug pair of graves, and lament both of their soon-to-be occupiers for such unjust killings last night. Instead of retrieving their poor bodies, I soon sensed great demonic evil feasting on this plane once more, meaning I immediately set off to track the source, find it, and kill it dead. I hear the bell toll again, but I still can't recognize who it's for.

I instead begin my nightly rounds before midnight, and start a perimeter search of the building for the demon, moving anticlockwise from the Graveyard. Immediately, I spy a cloaked someone digging a hole in front of the fountain, and smashing a glass, testing the shards for their sharpness. Upon approaching, I see it's MCD. He dismisses his actions with a "woops!" and departs inside with a golden tea set.

Walking around to the Cliffside, I notice none of the carnage we've uncovered today, and it's quiet. Pausing for a short while to watch the Wraiths and anything else Paranormal in the building, I notice...

  • Vigil recognises Mona immediately, as she's armored, and her spirit is very familiar to him. She's repairing the hole in the 2F Hallway.
  • One wraith somewhat beneath him floating to the Coatroom, while another wraith floats around holding a pile of metal scrap.
  • A mysterious fourth presence in the Nautical Exhibit, but it quickly rushes downstairs and to the south, then vanishes.
  • Another great evil manifests, which takes him by surprise. It seems to be heading outside, so he pursues it.

I head north to try and corner this fast-moving second evil, and at the same time, I sense the first evil near the Icy lake, but its influence is far weaker. I sense it head underground, and can't track it anymore as I continue. I happen upon a trail of minuscule baby spiders leading out from the Train Exhibit, heading west, and give chase, seeing a floating, unmoving cannon close to the Crow's Nest.

In the Sandy Grounds, there she is: Aracacia, the demonic spider queen of the Forest; she's been returned to this plane, and growing (larger) by the second. Recalling what my master imparted, Aracacia dislikes water and sunlight (or fire), so I give chase to stake her with a flaming stick. While I manage to slay quite a number of her tiny ghost spider minions, which turn to dust, she quickly burrows in the Forest, behind the wrecked car, so I stands guard for her to reappear.

MCD arrives and asks me for thoughts about the great adventurer in the exhibits, to which I can't recall any stories about adventurers my master imparted, and that I must burn the spider. Immediately.

She emerges from the Forest, now fully powered up with hundreds more tiny minions. She ensnares MCD with a toxic, demonic spider web to slow me down from pursuing her while I save him, the cunning beast, and she heads inside the Chalet. Portricia and Ghouligrab exit from the Garage and spot us. Ghouligrab stops to view the spiders with his darklight, while Portricia heads around the Forest Grounds towards the Graveyard.

I finally free MCD, and he heads inside. I sense the demonic spider is already fighting someone else now, but can't tell who.

Then, I head to the Graveyard. Ghouligrab flees north, and Lulu emerges covered head to toe in green "beanish" plant residue, and dirt. The terrified old soul that just passed me must have thought he saw a zombie. I offer to help Lulu, but she turns me down, and departs for the Front Garden.

It is then, a huge-ass [EXCUSe me, Tanner!] lightning bolt hits the clock tower, and the whole building goes dark. A short while later, the lights turn on.

Finally, the rest of the night I tend to the graves, hoping to grab the bodies in the morning. At some point I see Lee and Lupin burying things. Hopefully bodies.

Mercy to thee, Tanner. Excuse mine own temporarily crass, sullied tongue. Mine distant gaze worketh best with spiritual familiarity, so I do apologize for any ambiguities with the spirit's movements. I've only known all of thee for but a few nights. Even though our numbers art dwindling, I still can't figure out whither these demons art coming from, and from who's behest.

...keep a watchful eye on that Sun Stone, Lyra.

Alright. Blegh. Those cigars are worse than a Bomb Boo's ass.

tanner_excited.png

…Not going to lie, my motivation is off the charts now. Excited to finally see what the boss is up to… if he'll let me in on his plans after the last few nights I've been busting my ass to keep this place intact.

…Mostly.

This pickscythe isn't big enough to cut down that beanstalk, it's for reaping like… wheat. Or gems of amber. Look, the upstairs parts are above my current pay-grade of… nothing, alright?

Sigh… okay, Lash might have had a point.

tanner_angry_talk_alt.png

You need help finding an accomplice, right? Well I saw a few people–okay it was like three–all buddy-buddy tonight, but I was mostly floating around the basement and doing a favor for Albina. She chased me down and cashed in my favor so I could guard some… funky icy plant that hums, so I spent most of my night doing that.

tanner_neutral_talk.png

Early on, I watched Chad over there push a minecart back through the Pit Mine, lube up the tracks with a shot of ice, and load it up with a bunch of tools from the Maintenance Hub. Like, lots of duplicate hammers and junk, leaving only one spiky rock hammer and one pickaxe behind. I guess he wanted you guys to analyse it more, but KBB shows up shortly after and orders me to grab the cart and wheel it back again, his compatriot needs it.

I guess I know why now. They'd discovered you needed to pressurize the meteorite to release the shard inside, and the only way you could do that was by shoving it through the abyss track, which was locked off until like, last night. Woulda been nice if they like, told me that. Sigh…

Anyway, I sense someone messing with the Hydro Generators again, but I only see Mona in her armor ambling around that part of the facility, and she wouldn't do that, so I float off. I think Chad was fighting Gadd's freaky fish slime. I wonder if he killed it? I didn't actually float back there to check. Mostly because I don't want to clean up any of the mess right now.

Lyra, Lulu, and Albina meet up in the halls briefly, but Albina sees me and chases me back into the Amethyst wing, which is now… dark. She keeps chasing me. Like alright, I didn't actually want to fulfil your request, but the boss is the boss, and you guys got that one case right.

tanner_excited.png

She brings me to the Crystal Quarry, where I see a bedsheet ghost (classic!) staring at the cool rock we have. And the weird plant. She orders me to protect it and get rid of the ghost, so I start preparing a really cool pickscythe swing, when Coral reveals herself and cartwheels off. Her jacket's neat. I think that was also one of Gadd's.

So I kinda just… stand around for a while. In the Quarry. I chat up the plant, and she hums and sings and I oddly feel a bit sick after a while, but I'm obliged to do the favor, or the boss will look bad. I felt the ground shaking and then a loud bang, but I didn't move. A while later, the power goes out in the whole facility, and I… sneak out for a bit, but see someone who I think is Mona, but without her helmet and not really ghostly, heading towards the Maintenance Hub again to fix it.

tanner_neutral_talk.png

The power's on shortly after, I just float around and keep an eye on the Topaz Wing in case someone's heading there so I can head back and tell them the plant's off-limits. Lulu comes back to do some Dark Lab experimenting, I tell her don't touch the plant but she'd already brought her own to touch earlier apparently. Lee Chaolan heads to the Tomb at some point. MCD dressed in the most insane mismatching outfit comes by at the end of the night, and heads towards the Ceremonial Chamber for a short while before heading back to bed.

…so, I was in the basement the whole time, and I didn't see the victim at all until this morning. Y'know, those rock spires near the cliffside are the result of some pretty gnarly geologic-

Yeah that's probably enough, Tanner.

tanner_tired.png

…yes, boss. I trust ya.

kb_neutral.png

Thanks little buddy. You're the best. Prepping the stage for my testimony is like one of the best things you do, along with the other things I can't recall.

kb_angry.png

Now listen up, punks, I'm only going to say this once. You find a shard, you can pledge to give it to me after using it to kill everyone else in the facility, and then we can all go home in spiritual… whatever. Throw a party. Sing kumbayah. Spread our domain across the world at large with all of this ghostly energy Gadd foolishly tried to contain, before I one-upped him and hijacked his technology and experiment as payback for what he did to me-

kb_tongue.png

Oh right. Tonight. Tonight was my debut appearance on MCD's podcast, you know? Winter was wrong. My name is full of fame and glory, just look it up in those books, yeah? When this game's over, I'm going to keep building my ring one block at a time, using the success from here to crush the world from the top rope.

I am a little sad to see one of my successful killers bite it, but I'm more of a dog cube anyway. Here's what I know.

kb_think.png

Borrowing my helpful hand, Lyra showed up early in my office and asked me to grab some cart for her, saying it was for a shard.

I've sorta let her do her own thing with solving the shard puzzles. I ain't got a clue what to do, and if I did, I'd just corrupt the spirits and steal them anyway. They're all coming to me at the end of this, once I weed out the suckers who can't survive a little Killing Game. Don't forget to Vote for King Blocky Boo!

She left, and then I heard a splash. I heard the Z-Gate flushing in the Restroom. Then I warped to the Pit Mine, and the cart was gone. Immediately told Tanner to go find it before she shows up. So I wait around. Gaze into the abyss. Niiiiice

She eventually appears, and we shake on it. Tanner leaves, and the lights go out, but not entirely, because there's a few lanterns in the mine. Reckon it's got something to do with that abyss. Not the Hydro Generator. I'm blowing this case wide open for you right now.

kb_smug.png

I leave, and warp back to my office. Nothin' much to do except play bin ball with pieces of paper from some of Gadd's notes. I hear a smashing in the room next to me. I warp to the big Clock Tower heights to pass the, , , time. I see someone in the Greenhouse digging for peppers, hear some big commotion from the west, and MCD enters, offering me a spot on his podcast later and asks about some other stuff. Portricia enters from downstairs while we're chatting, and exits east, and I head back to my office while MCD exits west.

kb_tongue.png

Then, Mona floats through to "confront" me, or something. She says the facility is crumbling to pieces, she's floated through the exhibits trying to clean up after someone smashed everything within them, all of her safety protocols are being ignored, she feels like she's invisible and no one sees or hears her, she can't get a word in except to Lupin, and she's losing her mind. She can hardly recall any of Gadd's safety protocols, and regrets relying on the book so much. I smile. She's breaking. Soon, she'll see the darklight.

kb_think.png

She then asks, reluctantly, if I saw anyone break the mirror and flip the switch in the bathroom before she could, saying she was supposed to help someone with that. Nah. The power goes out, and Mona flees south, out the window, taking the paranormal path towards the Toolshed. I hear a much softer splash shortly later, and hear lots of movement in the hallway, but like, what am I supposed to do here?

kb_tongue.png

The power's out, kids. I'm not moving until someone else fixes it.

Which they did! I assume Mona did that.

kb_think.png

A little refresher in the Restroom, I warp to the Parlor for MCD's podcast. He asks me a few things, then like, climbs on the table and starts to grab at my crown. I don't know if he was just trying to do that for the show or something, but I couldn't ask him to leave my office for trying that, so I warp back immediately.

kb_tongue.png

And that's all I gotta add. Only a few more nights left of this, so have fun with Gadd's puzzles while you can.

Compare a pickax to the wounds on Portricia.
You examine the Pit Mine. The gate has shut itself after the pressurized abyss trip was completed. The minecart in question has a mangled, warped mess of spiked hammers and pickaxes melted together along with a carbonised rock, which is missing a substantial chunk. You assume that was the dark moon shard.

You check the Maintenance Hub, and find that a few things are missing since this room was last checked, among them some screwdrivers and loose wire, all of the spiked hammers, but only one pickaxe remaining. You confirm these are the same as the mangled ones in the minecart.

The pickaxe doesn't match any of the wounds.

Does the wound on Miss Porticia's back match a falchion, a spiked hammer, or an axe?

Does the wound on Miss Porticia's back match a falchion, a spiked hammer, or an axe?
The closest match to it so far is the spiked hammer, but it doesnt curve exactly the same, and isn't as cylindrical.

I'd like to look at Jackson in his Comedi-man outfit. Does he still visibly look like Jackson or can I not tell who he is?
It's rather easy to tell it's Jackson when he's standing still. The outfit consists of a pair of tall gray boots, long black pants, and a black hoodie, with a smock over the hoodie. Completing the disguise is a welding mask. You can tell it's Jackson, after being next to him for a while. At a distance or for only short periods of time, it might be harder. This applies to all full body costumes. Less pieces and bright light might make it easier.

Thinking back to the initial discovery, is it possible to determine if Portricia initially landed at the spot where she was found? Is there a "normal" amount of blood on that spire, was there any blood amongst the forklift wreckage, etc

I keep coming back to the tarp. Wish I remembered more about what it looked like... Um, It had to come from somewhere, and that somewhere could be part of the route of the person with the tarp. Let me see...

Investigate the Rafters looking for evidence of taken tarps. There might be tarps in the Studio, look there too.
