Hello people! This is just a fun small little project of mine I'm going to be doing over the next 10 days. So, anybody that knows me would know that I'm a big fan of robots and I figured a great way to express this would be through this project!

The premise is very very simple, every day for the next 10 days starting from tomorrow I will change my profile picture into a different robot character from a game, movie, show, etc. and I will come here to write a little about them! Specifically the 10 characters I have chosen are my top ten favourites, there are a few rules I underlined for myself though!
  1. Only one character per franchise; there are lots of robot characters that I love but some of them stem from the same series. For the sakes of this list, I am limiting it to only a single character per series.
  2. Computers and robot-like characters count! Even though some characters may technically not be robots, if they have the mannerisms or are generally robot-y then they may be included!
  3. If I miss a day (hopefully I shouldn't, but you never know what can happen) then I can just continue the next available day without any repurcussion. This is just a silly fun harmless project that I felt like doing, the only reason I would break my schedule is if something unforseen happens but it's not a challenge.
  4. This list isn't really in any particular order
And that's all! I'm not sure if people will really be interested in this, or if it will be read but I don't really mind because it's just a bit of fun.

Check back tomorrow to see what the first character will be! ...I get the feeling this first one is going to be very very familiar to most of you

Day 1 - "The vacation starts now!"
For the first day I have chosen none other than F.L.U.D.D., who is a character I'm sure you will all recognise!

FLUDD_SMS.png
F.L.U.D.D. originates from the videogame Super Mario Sunshine and serves as Mario's partner during the events of the game! They are capable of spurting water from the nozzle on their head but I'm sure you guys know all of this so today I'm just gonna jump right to the fun facts:

Did you know?
  • F.L.U.D.D. stands for Flash Liquidizer Ultra Dousing Device
  • F.L.U.D.D. was invented by none other than Professor E. Gadd!
  • F.L.U.D.D. appears in the Super Mario Galaxy Movie!
  • F.L.U.D.D. appears in the Super Smash Bros. series as part of Mario's moveset!
  • F.L.U.D.D. is voiced by Kit Harris who also provides the vocals for female Nokis!
  • An item that appears to be very similar to F.L.U.D.D. called the pump appears in the Mario Kart Arcade games!
  • 'F.L.U.D.D.' is a play on words, sounding similar to 'flood'!

Why I love F.L.U.D.D.
I think F.L.U.D.D. is a fantastic companion for Mario and serves as an interesting mechanic in the game they originate from. I find they really make Super Mario Sunshine feel like a special game. Their loyalty to Mario is an admirable trait and I really hope to see them return to the franchise some day!

Thanks for reading! Come back tomorrow, the next robot is going to be devillishly interesting!

Day 2 - "You can't just have your characters announce how they feel... that makes me feel ANGRY!"
For the second day I have chosen my favourite character from the animated show Futurama, the Robot Devil!
1779570534553.png
For those unaware Futurama is an adult animated sci-fi sitcom created by Matt Groening and David X. Cohen and is about a pizza delivery boy from the year 1999 who gets accidentally cryogenically frozen and sent to the year 3000 where he finds himself joining the crew of the interplanetary delivery company Planet Express. The Robot Devil (or as he is sometimes referred to, Beelzebot) is first introduced in the ninth episode of the first season 'Hell Is Other Robots'. In the episode, Bender (a member of the Planet Express crew) gets sent to Robot Hell after becoming addicted to electricity where the Robot Devil introduces himself in musical form (It's a catchy tune!).

The character goes on to make multiple other appearances in the show, generally appearing as a recurring villain, his most relevant of these appearances is arguably in 'The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings' which was originally intended to be the series finale! To summarise, in the episode Fry ends up switching his hands with the Robot Devil's so he can play the holophonor so he can win Leela's heart. The episode is often considered one of the greatest in the entire series, I can only imagine this is because of the Robot Devil's involvement! Anyways time for some fun facts!

Did you know?
  • The Robot Devil is voiced by Dan Castellaneta who is known for voicing iconic character from The Simpsons, Homer Simpson!
  • For one singular line of dialogue, he was actually voiced by Futurama regular cast member Maurice LaMarche!
  • The Robot Devil is unique as he may be the only robot not created by MomCorp as he seemingly predates the existence of the company!
  • One of the Robot Devil's signature traits is his prowess playing the fiddle which is a reference to the 1979 country song The Devil Went Down to Georgia!

Why I love the Robot Devil
The Robot Devil is one of the funniest and most interesting characters in Futurama, if he appears in an episode you are always in for a good time! The performance delivered by Dan Castellaneta is fantastic. The absurdity of the character alone makes him hilarious, but he also always delivers when it comes to jokes and gags!

Thanks for reading day 2! Come back tomorrow if you're feeling especially paradoxical!

Day 3 - "It has some similarities to a mad scientist's invention covered in a paranormal magazine."
For day 3 I have selected one of my favourite Pokémon, Iron Valiant!
1779649941952.png

I'm certain that even if you are not a fan of the series, everybody who is reading this at least knows what Pokémon is so I can jump right into explaining who Iron Valiant is.

Iron Valiant is a future Paradox Pokémon introduced in the ninth generation of the Pokémon games (Scarlet/Violet), they are a fairy/fighting type Pokémon that resembles both Gardevoir and Gallade, seemingly being a robotic hybrid of the two. The Pokémon can be found exclusively within the Violet version of the game, specifically near the end of your adventure in Area Zero. Iron Valiant has yet to appear in any other Pokémon games, but I have no doubt that they will make a return one day as they are seemingly the most popular of the future Paradox Pokémon.

Did you know?
  • Wild Iron Valiants have a 1/20 chance of holding a Booster Energy, an item that will activate the Pokémon's ability Quark Drive automatically
  • Iron Valiant has a completely unique type combination
  • Iron Valiant is the only Paradox Pokémon that is based on multiple Pokémon
  • Iron Valiant has 3 Pokémon cards dedicated to it
  • Iron Valiant can learn the move Spirit Break which was previously a move unique to only the Pokémon Grimmsnarl!
  • Iron Valiant has a huge 4x resistance to Dark-type moves!

Why I love Iron Valiant
Iron Valiant is one of my absolute favourite Pokémon designs, both incredibly sleek and incredibly awesome and on top of that they're also an insanely versatile Pokémon! Iron Valiant has a great selection of moves to choose from, and if used correctly has amazing potential. I also have three shiny ones lol

Apologies for today being slightly shorter. Also the quote I picked is a Pokédex entry for them since they don't speak. Hmm.. I'm struggling to come up with a good hint for tomorrows character, I suppose all I can say is I'm sorry, boards ;)

Day 4 - "Daisy... daisy... give me your answer true. I'm half crazy, over the love of you..."
Picking a quote for this one was tough, but I settled on this as the other iconic quote I referenced yesterday. Anyways for day 4 I have chosen perhaps the most iconic fictional computer ever: HAL 9000!

(NOTE: I will primarily be discussing the film version of the character)

1779732507648.png

For those who are unfortunate enough to have never seen 2001: A Space Odyssey, it is a sci-fi epic directed by Stanley Kubrick released in 1968 and is known as one of the most influential movies of all time, especially to the sci-fi genre. I will say that Stanley Kubrick is my personal favourite director of all time, and I honestly think that 2001 is THE greatest movie of all time so it's safe to say that I could sit here and gush about this movie and its director for hours. I think it's best that I spare you all from that and jump straight to the computer-of-the-hour.

HAL 9000 is a sentient artifical intelligence computer who is in charge of controlling the Discovery One spaceship. At first HAL seems friendly and cooperative and can be seen conversating and playing chess with some of the crew, however as the film progresses he begins to show multiple signs of malfuction, for example he incorrectly identifies a fault within the ships anteanna unit. Eventually HAL reveals himself as the antagonist of the film and after discovering Dave Bowman and Frank Poole's plan to shut HAL down, he goes rogue and attempts to kill all of the onboard crew. For the most part he succeeds however HAL fails to kill Bowman, who he had tried to trap in the cold emptiness of space. Bowman is able to get back into the ship and successfully shuts the computer down.

Did you know?
  • In the film, HAL's reasoning for malfunctioning is never made clear however it is likely the result of him having conflicting orders. As part of his programming he must be 100% honest with the crew, yet he was given secret orders from mission control.
  • HAL 9000 is one of the most iconic robotic characters of all time and has inspired countless other forms of media, for example AUTO from Wall-E is a direct homage to HAL. It's also likely that GLaDOS from the Portal series of games could be considered inspired by HAL, with the two even meeting in the videogame LEGO Dimensions!
  • The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! includes a reference to HAL 9000, with HAL 9001!
  • There is a real life asteroid which has been named 9000 Hal!
  • HAL 9000 was voiced by Douglas Rain
  • When HAL is shut down he begins to sing the song 'Daisy Bell' to Dave Bowman, this is in reference to this being the earliest song to be sung by a computer IRL.

Why I love HAL 9000
HAL is one of my favourite villains ever, he's seriously up there with the likes of Darth Vader. His softly toned monotone voice is simultaneously relaxing yet somewhat imposing. He's creepy yet fascinating and makes for one hell of a character study, and as well he sets the standard for all evil forms of artifical intelligence going forward.

Thank you for reading day 4, if you've come this far you can probably tell I'm pretty passionate! Tomorrow is day 5, the halfway point and things are bound to get astro-nomical!

Day 5 - "I am Astro Bot!"
Hooray, we've reached the halfway point! For day 5 I have chosen Astro Bot from the aptly named Astro Bot series!
Also shoutout to @Jackson B. Humorus who I know is an Astro Bot fan

1779820465015.png

So in modern times Astro Bot can really be considered the mascot of PlayStation, after all his first platformer game Astro's Playroom is pre-installed on every single PS5 console and honestly it has to be one of the greatest pre-installed games ever made, though it's worth noting that it was not Astro's first appearance as he first appeared in the 2016 title The Playroom VR before going on to get his first game in 2018 Astro Bot Rescue Mission (another VR title). Astro's Playroom was such a success that it garnered it's own full-game sequel: Astro Bot! (Appropriate name lol)

Astro Bot as a series is pretty much one huge homage to PlayStation's history, both Astro's Playroom and Astro Bot have you hunting down hundreds of 'VIP Bots', all of which are dressed/act like characters from popular PlayStation games. Honestly they're all so cute so I've decided that I will share some of my favourites!

The Journey traveler! (This guy is even my PS avatar)
Sackboy!
Connor! (Woah robot-ception)
Both Spider-Men!
Sir Daniel Fortesque!
Gex!

And there are many many more! As well as these VIP bots you can collect different consoles, controllers, accesories etc. all from PlayStations history, it really is just one big love letter.

What about Astro Bot himself though? I'll admit he's not exactly a deep character but he doesn't have to be! And most importantly (to me at least) he shows us that cute mascots can still be successful, especially after Astro Bot went on to win multiple Game Of The Year awards (I kinda think these kinds of shows are dumb, but it's got to count for something).

Did you know?
  • Astro Bot is only 30cm tall! (0.9')
  • Astro Bot's robotic voice is made up of a mix of English, Japanese and onomatopoeia masked into robotic sounds!
  • Astro Bot himself did not appear in the first game of his own franchise, The Playroom
  • The soundtrack to the Astro Bot games is composed by Kenneth C. M. Young who also worked on the LittleBigPlanet games!
  • Many of the VIP bots that appear in the games are not from first-party Sony titles, but rather third-party franchises that are synonymous with the PlayStation brand

Why I love Astro Bot
Fantastic game aside, Astro himself is simply adorable and he honestly has one of the most appealing designs for a robot character to me, he strikes the perfect balance between being simplistic and being robotic.

Thanks for reading once again! I heard that things tomorrow are going to get wild so make sure you come back!

Day 6 - "A Rozzum always completes its task!"
Oh boy, I've been looking forward to this one. The next robot I will be talking about comes from my all-time favourite movie: The Wild Robot (yes, yes I know it's based on the book series but similarly to HAL I'm just focusing on the movie here as that had the biggest personal impact on me). Rozzum-7134, also known as Roz!
1779904772325.png

It's hard to put into words how much of an impact this character and movie had on me, despite only releasing in 2024 I have seen it countless times, it very quickly rose the ranks of my mental movie tierlist to become one of my all-time favourites. To put into perspective how much I appreciate this character, I spent about $335 on one of those super duper incredibly high quality figures of her (It's not actually out yet, but I'm looking forward to the day it finally releases!) Roz is even my desktop background!

Anyways for the uninitiated, The Wild Robot is an animated movie released in 2024 by Dreamworks Animation, it is based on a series of books by Peter Brown and is about a robot who gets shipwrecked on an island and has to learn to survive, along the way she ends up becoming the adoptive mother to a Goose named Brightbill after she accidentally kills his family before he was born. She also befriends a fox named Fink who teaches her how the 'wild' island life worked. There is a lot more to the movie, and I really suggest that you give it a watch if you haven't, so much so that I refuse to elaborate on the plot further as to not spoil the movie.

Did you know?
  • The Wild Robot has a surprising amount of connections to the Star Wars franchise. For example the cast of the movie features Mark Hamill, Lupita Nyong'o, Pedro Pascal and Matt Berry who play Luke Skywalker, Maz Kanata, Din Djarin and 8D8 in the Star Wars franchise!
  • Mark Hamill even once said that after he first read The Wild Robot he was reminded of how he first felt about the original Star Wars in 1977!
  • Throughout the movie Roz's dialogue goes from being rather monotone and emotionless to becoming very sincere and heartfelt as she becomes more 'alive'
  • The name 'Rozzum' is taken from the Czech 1920 play R.U.R. which stands for Rossum's Universal Robots.

Why I love Roz
Oof where to begin? She is a surprisingly complex yet easily understandable character who I find is very easy to get attached to. Her mother/son relationship with Brightbill is just adorable and just always makes me smile, and the message her character sends is an honestly great one. Please watch The Wild Robot if you haven't already! You won't regret it!

Anyways, come back tomorrow because iiiit's showtime!

Have you read the books before? If so, which do you like more, the book or the movie?

If I may make a suggestion how about an animetronic from FNAF? There's a BUNCH to choose from! Just make sure to steal clear of the Flesh corp cyborgs, ghosts figments of imagination and the non cannon book bots.

Sorry but no thanks, I'm not a fan

(Also my list is already pre-determined)

Day 7 - "REAL DRAMA!! REAL ACTION!! REAL BLOODSHED!! ON OUR NEW SHOW... 'ATTACK OF THE KILLER ROBOT!'"
Today I'm going to be talking about my favourite character from the very famous 2015 RPG where nobody has to die: Undertale! And the character in-question that I'm speaking about is Mettaton!

1779989642464.png

Mettaton is a character who is only first introduced in the second half of Undertale, specifically in Hotland. He is the Underground's one and only TV star and is a huge celebrity. It's worth noting that Mettaton was not always a robot, originally he was a ghost monster who loved human TV and fantasised about 'becoming a star'. Through this obession they met the scientist Alphys who built him the body he had always desired.

During the events of the game Mettaton frequently gets in the way of Frisk (the player character), however is usually thwarted with the assistance of Alphys. All of Mettaton's interruptions take the form of different types of shows you would find on TV (e.g. A quiz show, a news broadcast, a cooking show and a musical performance). It is at the end of Hotland that it is revealed that the MTT brand is so large that he even has his own hotel (with employees that are treated with... varying levels of care).

At the end of the CORE Mettaton re-appears and reveals that all of his previous schemes were actually completely staged by him and Alphys, all so Alphys could make herself feel important and stop Frisk from having to kill the king. However he goes back on the plan he made with Alphys, preventing her from swooping in and saving Frisk during their supposed final encounter, he planned to kill Frisk himself so he could take their soul and leave the underground and become a star on the surface (as well as stopping Asgore from waging war on humanity in the process). During this final encounter it is revealed that Mettaton has another form after Frisk flips a switch on his back. This form is called Mettaton EX and is much more humanoid but also much more vulnerable than his standard form.

In the genocide route Mettaton assists Alphys in evacuating the Underground and eventually faces off against Frisk where he reveals yet another form, Mettaton NEO which was made for human eradication. Visually this form is very similar to EX, however Mettaton has an arm cannon and wings (as well as different armour). Despite having 30000 HP Mettaton NEO will always go down in a single hit. This form returns in the succesor to Undertale, Deltarune through the optional boss fight Spamton NEO!

Speaking of Deltarune, Mettaton is also in that game though he has yet to appear physically and only plays a very very minor role. It is possible for Kris to speak with him. During Chapter 2 it is heavily implied by Swatch that Mettaton was the one who created the NEO body. After the events of Chapter 3 the character Tenna requests for Kris and Susie to find him a new home, it is then possible for them to give Tenna away to Mettaton, who truly loves and appreciates the gift!

Below is Mettaton EX (left) and Mettaton NEO (right)
1779991749089.png
1779991799435.png

Did you know?
  • Mettaton has more tracks associated with him than any other character on the Undertale OST!
  • Mettaton is cousins with characters Napstablook, Mad Mew Mew (formerly Mad Dummy) and the Dummy from the Ruins!
  • Mettaton's first form is strangely one of the strongest enemies in the entire game. He can't be damaged in any ways and has attacks that can straight up halve the players HP (e.g. laser attack after getting quiz question wrong)
  • During the Snowdin segment of the game there is a box in one of Papyrus' puzzles that resembles Mettaton. It was confirmed by Toby Fox during the 10th Anniversary Stream that this is indeed Mettaton, making it technically his first appearance!
  • The answer during Mettaton's essay question that will yield the most ratings is 'hotfinenticute'
  • Internally Mettaton NEO has a defense stat of -40,000. Yes negative.
Why I love Mettaton
I think Mettaton is an incredibly underrated character in Undertale. He has interesting lore, he is incredibly funny and his battle is one of the greatest in the game (also he has some of the best OSTs!). I really really hope we see more of him in Deltarune's upcoming chapters!

As for tomorrow, we'll be checking out the OG clankers!
