The ideal Mario Party has always been out of reach. With Mario Party 9 and 10 following the kart format, and all the 3DS Mario Partys being lackluster, Super Mario Party brought a breath of fresh air, with its easy controls, somewhat diverse roster, and new board additions, the game was great. But what if it was better? Take the story mode of 8, the mechanics of SMP, and a character roster of All Stars across the Mario Universe. The ideal Mario Party.
The Story Mode
One day while out on a plumbing job for a hooded client, however, once they begin work on the sink, something bad happens. Suddenly the clogged sink is fixed, but then it starts to glow with a dark purple, and the Mario Bros. and sucked in. The hooded client laughs and warps away. Mario wakes up in a darkened room and sees a door up ahead. He runs toward the door and opens it to a balcony where he meets Luigi and Yoshi. Suddenly the hooded client appears in front of the three. He throws off his cloak to reveal what he looks like. He has long arms and legs, a tuxedo, gloves and black pants. He has a large, eerie grin that covers most his face and a top hate that causes the area around his eyes to be black, aside from two yellow eyes peering out. He refers to himself as the Master of Parties. He claims he's taken over the Mushroom kingdom and beyond, and to celebrate, multiple parties will be held, hosted by him. He claims that winning the parties is vital. If the winner is on your side, you'll move on. However if the winner is on the villain side, you're out of the competition. The prize for winning the competition is to play a party match with the Master of Parties for a chance to free not only the Mushroom Kingdom, but the world. Suddenly, the balcony crumbles, and the three heroes fall down to the first board, Wiggler Woods. A Goomba shows up as the villain member for this map. The first party of the adventure begins. Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi on the hero side and Goomba on the villain side. How Story Mode parties work is a member of the hero side must win to progress. The player can choosewhich of the Hero side characters they want to play as, and the party commences. After winning the party, the Hero team commences to the next area, Coin Coffer Cavern. Upon arriving at the cave entrance, the Master of Parties appears. He tells the Hero team that the last party was boring, and that something needs to spice this one up. Suddenly, King Boo appears next to him, and Luigi is taken. The Master of Parties then summons Monty Mole and a Hammer Bro enter the party, and the second party commences in Coin Coffer Cavern. After winning that party, the Hero Team commences through a forest outside the exit of the cave. While navigating the woods, Mario and Yoshi get seperated. Yoshi wanders in the forest lost, as Mario arrives at the next party location. Chain Chomp Channel. Waiting for him at the channel is Bowser Jr. and two Dry Bones. Behind Bowser Jr. is Peach in his Clown Car. Bowser Jr. explains that he captured her and if Mario wins, he'll give her back. After playing through that party, Mario wins, Peach is released, and Yoshi gets out of the woods. The three meet up and plan on trekking along the river to the next challenge together. Suddenly, Toadworth shows up in a raft, and the gang rides down the channel. After a game of River Survival, the Hero team meets up King Boo and the Master of Parties at Paranormal Parlor. With Luigi, King Boo flies deep into the parlor as the Master of Parties explains that 2 of the Hero Side members are going to have to sit on the sidelines as allies. During this party, ally spaces from Super Mario Party will show up. During Adventure Mode, Hero side can only get other Hero side allies, and vice versa.

This is still a work in progress and any constructive criticism is greatly appreciated!

I really like this. I can tell you put a lot into it. A question though? Are you making this game?

God I wish I could make this into a real game. I come up with ideas like this every once an a while as a hobby and thought I'd start posting this. and as for the rules thing... I learned my lesson on the Smash Boards heh heh.

Theres a smash board!? THEN WHY THE **** DO WE HAVE A DAMN SMASH SECTION DAMN IT!
Why not make it in minecraft, or RPG maker?
Yeah Smash Boards is pretty neat and im pretty sure they have a section for discussing Mario
Once i get RPG maker and do some other stuff i have planned i might give it a shot.

How many characters are in the game? How many boards are in the game?
I'm still working both of those out. I think im gonna aim for 30 charecters from across Mario History, from all types of Mario games, such as Fawful from the Mario and Luigi series and Whittle from Mario Galexy. As for boards, I am very much so unsure of that.

personally i think if mario party 9:
  • had better graphics
  • changed the board mechanics to not cause major imbalances or do things because of only luck e.g. get rid of things like the bob omb that could end you in the lategame
  • had more minigames and none that were just luck, probably also none that were just spamming
it would be the perfect mario party.

From what i remember i didn't mind the graphics. I also don't remember many of the minigames, but i agree, less luck more skill. I think 9 using the car format was ok because the Wii also had a traditional Mario Party, 8. However it should of just been a one off thing and 10 shouldn't of used it.

i speak as someone who's only played 9 and 6 and played 9 first but personally i didn't mind the car thing, just get rid of things that change things up more than they should and/or are just luck

I don't mind it either, but i prefer traditional Mario Party by a longshot
