Need a bit of help solving a SM64 puzzle

Posting this in here since it is less of a "Mario discussion" and more of a "Is this even possible" discussion. I'm working on a Super Mario 64 mod that simply makes all of the stars absolutely SUCK to obtain. I've moved the Mother Penguin up to where Wall Kicks Will Work is (specifically, the final icy platform where the star is). Is it physically possible to bring the Baby Penguin up there? I've tried an out-of-bounds clip directly above (but not close enough, unfortunately) the platform, I've tried the hands-free glitch...

Some help would be appreciated, as I've exhausted everything I know how to do.



do I need to modify the star, or is this possible?

From the new 120 TAS on SGDQ, they clip from the top and dive down. I don't know if there is a consistent set up you can use for it RTA.

So in theory you should be able to grab baby hands free -> clip -> dive to reach mama penguin. Whether that's realistic is another story.

If you're aiming to have this mod played by humans, not really. You should try to make something that requires high skill but can be feasibly done with enough practice by a human. TAS-only is when even the highest level speedrunners (the most skilled players of the game) can't pull off the trick. I'm assuming nobody makes mods that are intended to be played by a computer.

True. I mean, I have seen someone do the clip and dive 75% of the way there, so I feel it MAY be possible. I get what you're saying, though this isn't really meant to be fun to play [though I now realize that "TAS-only" is probably not what this is, as I didn't really think about what it implies. It probably sucks, but I assume that a computer doesn't have to be the sole one to complete it.]

And in all fairness, SM64 The Black Virus has levels that aren't meant to be beaten by humans...

But I do understand what you're saying. I THINK it's possible?

Who do you want your audience to be? Speedrunners? TASers? Masochists?

A mix of the three, probably. People who know the trick/can figure out the trick, but also won't shy away from a painful star.
