They are. Mario
and Luigi
are obviously playable, in SMUSA Peach
and Toad
, then there's Yoshi
and yoshi colours (Claud, Jonny, Sunny, Marci, Brown Yoshi, Netty, Tommy, Eddi, Black Yoshi and White Yoshi), who are playable in the Yoshi's Island series (which derive from a game of the super Mario series), and in the Wario Land series, Wario
is playable (the Wario Land series also derive from a game of the super Mario series). Then, in Super Mario Sunshine, F.L.U.D.D. is playable (according to the 2015 encyclopedia), Blue Toad and Yellow Toad are playable in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Co-Star Luma is playable in Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Nabbit is playable in New Super Luigi
is playable, in Super Mario 3D World, Rosalina
and Captain Toad are playable, in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, you can play as Hint Toad, Bank Toad, Yellow Toad and Archivist Toadette, in Super Mario Run, Daisy's
playable and in Super Mario Odyssey, you can play as Cappy! And in Super Mario 3D World+Bowser's Fury, in Bowser's Fury, you can play as BJ
.I know Archivist Toadette's Toadette
, but I don't care.

The Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia is notoriously one of the least reliable "official" sources out there. There was even this thing where one of the authors plagiarized information from Mario Wiki (which turned out to be incorrect)
