Best way to go about external memory for Wii U?

I just got Xenoblade Chronicles X and was going to get the extra data packs that improve load times, but I don't have enough internal memory on my Wii U (Really Nintendo? Only 32 gigs?). What's the best type of external memory?

The external memory I have is a hard drive that runs on its own power source. It's on the overkill side of things, about 2 TB, but if you can obtain something that runs on its own power source, then you should be good to go.

Buy a memory stick, to store your game data on, as the wii u memory data isn't enough, and a external hard drive would be better as well!
