Nope, not that I remember. I don't remember a character like that either.

I remember the yellow bowl as well. That's Mr. Bowl.

I seen those somewhere, they remind me of some Japanese legend in which objects that turn a 100 years old will become alive, which seems to make sense because they move by themselves.

I found an image of what a 3D/CGI remake of TBLT would look like.

Actually I don't think this looks half-bad. Now if only the humans are animated like this too (not live-action) then it would look far less awkward.
