I'm hoping Michigan wins their first national title in 25 years this year. It also appears that over in the Mid-American Conference, another one of my local teams (Eastern Michigan) is really on fire now, especially after beating intrastate rival Central Michigan, though I doubt EMU will make it all the way to the national finals.

Yay. Hopefully I win this year.

I was going to pick Arizona but then I found out one of their guys is injured.

They've actually adjusted really well to the injury, although they've lost 3 games since Brandon Ashley was injured. A lot of people think they should be the overall #1 seed, though (generally between them and Florida).

Well, remember two posts above that I doubted Eastern Michigan would make it to the national finals? I was right when I noticed that Toledo and Western Michigan will face off for the MAC title. I don't know now who to root for, since I live closer to Toledo but live in the same state as Kalamazoo...

Sidenote: I've actually stepped foot in Toledo before, but haven't been in Kalamazoo since 2009-and even then, I've only passed through it on a train twice.

Well, it looks like this year, whoever's winning the Big Ten championship will be from the Great Lakes State, as both Michigan and Michigan State are facing off as I type this.

And it looks like I'm also going to follow Western Michigan as well, since they're the MAC champs, in addition to being another Michigan-based NCAA team.

Here are my basic picks:

Elite 8:
Florida
Syracuse
Mich St.
Iowa St.
Arizona
Creighton
Wich St.
Michigan

Final Four:
Florida
Iowa St.
Creighton
Wich St.

Championship is Florida and Wich St. with Wich St. wining.

Here's my bracket.

Going with the trendy pick of Michigan State winning it all, but I probably went a little too upset-heavy with this bracket. The Midwest is an absolute slaughterfest of a region, though.

This is mine.

I went kind of a no-upset type bracket (except for Stephen F. Austin, they're my upset pick this year), I picked three 1 seeds and the other was a 2 seed.

Not sure how well my upset pick is going to turn out, but hey, last year I thought (nobody will believe me about this, but...) FGCU stood a chance against GTown, and they won! I thought they would lose to San Diego State though :P.

Wait, now I realized that last year I picked Miami to win, and this year I picked Florida. What is it with me and teams from Florida?!

First two games of the First Four are done, with Albany winning over Mount St. Mary's 71-64, and NC State winning over Xavier 74-59.

If the Albany/MSM game was any indication of what the tournament will be like, this is going to be one exciting tournament. Albany started the game with a 21-2 lead and then MSM stormed back with their own 21-2 run.

I didn't watch most of the NC State/Xavier game but I hear Xavier looked awful in the 2nd half. Totally fine with me, I wanted NC State to win that game. I wanted MSM to win the other one though :/

We've got #16 Cal Poly and #16 Texas Southern today, and then #11 Tennessee and #11 Iowa.

If Cal Poly manages to win, I'll be somewhat suprised because they didn't even have a winning record.

something something basketball

you know, i used to think basketball was the worst sport ever, but i've been playing recently and once you get the hang of all the weird rules and stuff it's rather fun

i just play defense. it's just like defense in soccer, except you use your hands and arms instead of your feet and legs

First Four is done! Cal Poly defeats Texas Southern, 81-69, and will face the undefeated #1 seed Wichita State. Tennessee defeated Iowa, 78-65, in OT, and will face #6 seed UMass.

Round of 64 kicks off tomorrow, at 12:15, when #11 Dayton takes on #6 Ohio State. 16 games tomorrow, 16 on Friday.
