My avatar is supposed to be an animated GIF, but it turned into a PNG when I uploaded it. Can somebody tell me why, is it too many frames or what?

Forum software always takes the first frame and shrinks it to 125px in the largest direction. This is to safe power and space.
Should you want to maintain the animation, upload it to a third party hosting site instead.

...Although, I could have sworn I upload a GIF before and it worked. I think it was that recent Dark Fawful recolored sprite gif.

Guess that was because the image was smaller then 125px in any direction, then it doesn't need resize.
