hugo chavez died.

condolences to his family, may he rest in peace despite the stuff he did.

Re: incoming news

His death doesn't make me happy per se, because, despite how much I hated him and his ideals, I will not rejoice over the death of a human being.

I just hope Maduro doesn't stay as President, because he is clearly out of his mind, just like Chavez was. The fair thing would be to call to elections, and let the people choose their next President, who will most likely end up being Capriles, if he were to run again.

I wish the best to the people of Venezuela, may they finally get out of the political and economic nightmare that they have been living in.

Re: incoming news

He was a bastard, but like Hobbes said: I won't rejoice over the death of a human being. Of course, I won't get sad either, because he caused a lot of damage to us.

per both.

honestly he wasn't a very good person but it's not a good thing to rejoice on a human death.

Re: incoming news

He was friends with the leader of Iran, Iran hates the US and Isreal. Thats all I'm going say.

This is kinda off-topic, but I feel as if Morsi will die the same way he did.

I heard he was a dictator. Was that true?

study some world history, my friend - hugo chavez was a fairly important leader.
I think you might mean Current Events, he only died yesterday.
he didn't get famous by dying, did he?

he was famous (or infamous, depending on your point of view) for being friends with Castro and enemy of the United States

it might be current events now because he died recently, but he's got a lot of history

Re: incoming news

Nominally, he stood for a lot of great things, like eliminating poverty and increasing rights for minorities, but in actuality, he was a corrupt ruler who censored opposing perspectives and violated his own laws.

So I don't mourn him, I mourn what he could have been.

Uh?! I'm sorry, but he did not eliminate poverty. Actually, he increased it. If anything, he improved their lifestyles a little bit, but he certainly did not eliminate it. Sure, he gave houses (of very bad quality; some of them fell apart days after their construction) to those who did not have one. He gave them food (they had to queue in lines for more than 4 hours to get a single package of sugar) and he gave them education (a very mediocre one, by the way). To those who had absolutely nothing, it's a miracle.

Something he did do was increasing the crime rate. You literally can't get out of your house at night without having the fear of getting robbed or even killed. They can even kill you for your hat or your shoes. It's that bad.

I think you wanted to say "I hope that Maduro or whatever socialist guy doesn't take his place", right?

May God hear you, but that is not going to happen. Nostalgia is going to play a gigantic role during the next 30 days. Chavistas (for those who don't know, chavistas is the name given to those who support Chávez) will vote out of nostalgia, because Chávez told them to vote for Nicolás Maduro. They think Maduro is capable of directing a country. Hell, he's a freaking bus driver! I'm not trying to humilliate bus drivers, because every single job is honorable, but come on, it is one thing to direct a bus and another to direct a country. I will once again go out and vote for Capriles if he decides to be the opposition candidate, but he is sadly not going to win. Maduro has this one. :(

my forgot the doesn't.

also I don't think maduro is going to win.

a chavism without chavez is a chavista's worst nightmare so yeah.

besides he lacks the charisma chavez had to his followers so yeah.

Re: incoming news

Hmmm, who knows. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

By the way, I suggest that the name's thread be changed to something actually related to what we're discussing. "Hugo Chávez died", maybe?
