(Slightly Old News) Mickey Mouse movie?

So, I was looking down the Wikipedia page for the Animated Disney Canon. Next year's entry into the series is "Wreck-It Ralph", which actually sounds pretty interesting, being about video games and all. Something else caught my eye, though. After Wreck-It Ralph, two more movies are apparently in the works: an adaption of The King of the Elves (a sci-fi short story written by Philip K. Dick in 1953) and...

A feature film starring Mickey Mouse?

By the time this was announced, it has yet to be greenlit, so I don't know if there are anymore details about it...

For those of you unaware, as far as the Animated Disney Canon goes, Mickey has only been featured in about 3 of them, namely Fantasia, Fun & Fancy Free, and Fantasia 2000. Any and all other movies, namely the direct-to-DVD brand of movies, don't count. And even then, Mickey wasn't the main focus. So to have the Walt Disney Animation Studios, the studio responsible for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Fantasia, Bambi, and all your other favorite Disney movies both new and old, make a movie with Mickey Mouse star in his own feature-length movie (alongside Donald Duck and Goofy)...

Well, I'd say it's about time.

I know it's really too early to speculate, but since this IS Disneycember (see ThatGuyWithTheGlasses.com to see what I'm talking about), I figured it was worth mentioning.

The guy who brought up this idea was one Burny Mattinson, a veteran Disney animated from the 60's who also worked on the recent Winnie the Pooh movie, who basically said he had an idea to feature Mickey, Donald, and Goofy in their own movie, which sounds really vague... I wonder what exactly he had in mind. Personally, I hope he uses a lot of classic Disney characters. Not just mainstays like Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck, Pluto, and Pete, but also Clarabelle Cow, Horace Horsecollar, Hell, why not throw in Oswald the Lucky Rabbit as well, since Epic Mickey finally had them reunite.

There's just so much potential in this, and given that this is Disney's mascot we're talking about, Disney's DEFINITELY going to have to give this idea some care and attention... if they let it pass, that is.

"About time" is a severe understatement.

They should have done this in the fifties.

I think by the 50's, Mickey was beginning to lose his momentum and character, and wasn't as popular as he used to be... But you ARE right.

Well, I kinda already made a Mickey thread here for all your favorite Mickey cartoons, but that's not really relevant whatsoever. :P. http://www.marioboards.com/index.php?topic=14852.0

Well, THIS topic is about the movie, while yours is about Mickey cartoons. So it's different! :P

Not sure if this is technically related or not, but Mickey Mouse and Roger Rabbit are going to star in an animated remake of "The Stooge":

...Well... That's something.
