We've written a new policy page to serve as a style guide for tables going forth, over at MarioWiki:Table style guide. Each of the color revamps have been following this, so this isn't anything new, but a lot of this is something you had to feel out from experience rather than just... Look at a...
oh shoot when'd you sign up for the boards? hey there!
Ahem. Seconding this. Merging the browser advergames to the pages for the games they're promoting would be... Catastrophic for readability's sake, practically a tumor on the page's pacing. We would far prefer splitting off lists of browser...
The more of these advergames get found, the more we do agree that making a separate list for them would do wonders for organization. Not to downplay the relevance of these promotional tidbits, but it makes it, ironically, harder to find them out of every other game if we just clump them all up...
Personally, we'd just prefer to sidestep the issues with a service willing to weaponize its own userbase (no matter how much self-defense it involved) by just... Not using it whenever possible. Our patience for that sort of thing is nonexistent when it's smaller website; that a large archive is...
we imagine that one way or another, donkey kong would Exist and the hypothetical would be MOSTLY moot, but it'd probably be for very different reasons and we'd end up with just like, a few things here or there. rather than being made because nintendo needed to replace a bunch of radar scope...
Super Mario Bros. (film) § References to the games has, for awhile now, been left behind in terms of how references sections should be formatted, on a game-by-game basis. Can't someone help evolve this thing to fit in with the modern day standard?
sometimes we think about how one of the Starbeans Cafe cutscenes in Superstar Saga depicted a video conference, treating it like it was some grandiose far-future invention that was so wacky that E. Gadd would just have ready to go, at a moment's notice. not even a decade later, guess what became...
We'd prefer actual RPG characters appearing in these spin-offs (just kinda in general, frankly--we love it when they do callbacks to more remote sections of the Mario franchise as a whole, even just as little "wink wink" nods. them appearing as actual playable characters is just a bonus.), but...
have been poring thru these off-and-on since last night. if it helps anyone, we think it's easier to demonstrate just what goes into de-souping a page by comparing with the last revision before souping, rather than the souped version. for instance, take Space Swap Hex:
comparing with the souped...
Come to think of it, that Fangamer merchandise does actually provide a pretty decent argument in favor of a Kinoppe Forever page; while Nintendo themselves wasn't involved, the creators behind Diddy Kong Racing (Rare) definitely were. While we don't know enough about manga-related copyright to...
Reissue has been marked as being "under construction" for 12 years. Twelve. Entire console generations have come and gone, entire eras of the wiki's staff have came and went, and the article has become a ship of theseus of itself as it existed twelve years ago, yet is still incomplete with...
We seem to have unwittingly found ourselves the rising star of the Sharp X1/other such Japanese home computer games, such as Super Mario Bros. Special or Donkey Kong 3: Dai Gyakushū, at least for the time being. Not complaining, though. ;P
SUPER MARIO BROS. SPECIAL IS ACTUALLY REALLY FUN EVERYONE ELSE ARE JUST COWARDS AND THEY SHOULD CRY INTO AND MARRY THEIR COPIES OF NEW SUPER MARIO BROS. U IF THEY LOVE OBJECTIVELY GOOD VIDEO GAMES SO MUCH
...okay, uh, maybe not that extreme on the last part, we're obviously playing it up for a...
Sorry to resurrect an old as heck thread, but we've got one for you; the Donkey Kong 3: Dai Gyakushū manual. We only really have two sources; one is a blog post, where someone recounts the relevant information, and the other is an old post on this very forum from a burner account... which had...
Sorry to revitalize a thread dormant for 8 months or so (wait, seriously? 8 months? time flies.), but we've actually been curious about this for awhile and only just learned there's a thread for this. Over on Kinoppe's talk page, a good while ago, someone brought up the idea of potentially...
And that's that! We had a lot of creative juices in us, and so we finished off World 6, went ahead and did everything we wanted to for the World articles (that we can do until the English/Japanese name proposal wraps up), and we finished World 8-4 just now.
While we definitely were the ones...
We've gone ahead and made 8-2 and 8-3! 5 levels remain and all images are accounted for. This might genuinely be done before our birthday on April 7th... Wild, considering how distant it felt not even a week ago. We will say that if you want to claim a level page to help write in World 6, speak...
So uh. There was a bit of a change of plans. We figured out Sharp X1 emulation. You can tell, because we kinda... got all the images before we even made a single page, and literally played all of SMBS. Whoops! (It was actually surprisingly really fun, but also, we are an unabashed fan of weird...
World 7 is donezo! And HOO BOY 7-4 in particular was a pain. Here's our plan for the remaining levels in Worlds 6 and 8:
If anybody would like to pitch in, we'll be leaving World 6 untouched for a moment and move on to 8-1, 8-2, and 8-3. We'll probably spend the next couple of days on this, so...
That's 5-4 accounted for, so all of World 5 has articles! Reminder that as of right now, the major blind-spot on these articles are the lack of images for their infoboxes; we're still holding out for a hero on this one, so if you can help out with that, be our guest to do so!
We've been chipping away at World 5's levels the past few days; 5-1, 5-2, and 5-3 are all accounted for now. Once we're done, we'll probably jump right to World 7 just because. We like 7. So, if someone wants to tackle World 6 before then, we'd appreciate the help!
Last night we created World 4-3, officially taking us to halfway overall and 1/3rd of the way through the targets in the original post! Images are still the largest hurdle for the current articles, so if you feel like trying to figure out a way to get decent images, be our guest!
We saw that thread title and thought we lived in a far stranger/cooler and more awesome reality than we did a few moments ago. We don't mind roster clones that much so long as there are already fairly substantial inclusions in the roster.
Peachette in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe + Booster Course Pack...
In regards to this, Doc Von recently added the contemporary English names to the Enemies table outright and we have no idea how to handle that given this conundrum. What do?
While we were at it, we added a List of levels table to the main SMBS article. We do have two questions in particular for possible improvements:
More pressing, we don't know what names to use for the enemies; either the contemporary English names, or the literal Japanese names provided for SMBS...
They also went ahead and de-stubbed World 3-3, which is very nice to see! We might try and make the remaining baseline World articles between our current excursion in Superstar Saga gear articles & the upcoming Game & Wario Cluck-a-pop prize proposal.
Last year, we ate GOOD in regards to remakes. With the Switch 2 on the horizon, though, we want to see new releases; both because it's kind of a tough act to follow the absolute deluge of neat remakes from last year, but also... Show us the power of that thing! Give us a weird Pikmin spinoff...
clearly it's ANTONBLAST, haven't you been paying attention?
we actually didn't really play many Switch releases at all last year. we know, for a Mario Wiki editor, utter sacrilege! but most of our time last year was spent in the obscure game & game mod mines, as we were want to do. thusly, we...
Probably the most impactful thing for us was the proposal that led to more-or-less a rework of proposal lengths, but participating in the Great "Give Media Descriptions" Frenzy Of December 2024 is definitely a highlight, tho that may be recency bias at play ;P
Clearly, we need to round up a bunch of people on the Discord and do a watch party together. (...We have no idea if that's actually a thing a single soul would be interested in, but all we're saying is, if someone was deranged enough to organize it, we would do our best to attend. ;P)
As of present, there's a pretty large gap in the information on Super Mario Bros. Special; namely, the levels of the back 75%-or-so-give-or-take-a-level of the game. World 3 has an article, but only 1 level in it has an article... And worlds 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 all lack articles altogether...

This article's original form is so old, it predates The Cutting Room Floor taking off the way it did... And it kind of shows, with its strange and obtuse formatting and weird phrasing. Someone give this...
an observation we had earlier is that the items in the Mario Kart Arcade GPs are uh. rather stubby and also grammatically strange as well. stuff like Peach's Bird generally assumes you have FAR more familiarity with the video game to understand what it means by "the bird will attack opponents"...
