Because the English translation wasn't actually by Nintendo, it was by Dark Horse. AFAIK the original Japanese text was actually from Nintendo, but when Dark Horse translated it they made millions of mistakes
The Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia is notoriously one of the least reliable "official" sources out there. There was even this thing where one of the authors plagiarized information from Mario Wiki (which turned out to be incorrect)
Imagine if Nintendo's whole Switch 2 announcement next year is just that the Switch oled was actually the Switch 2 and there will never be a new console ever again
