That must be why the only known hacks for those games are of the following nature:
- Gotta Catch 'em All (you can capture all the Pokemon)
- Tougher trainer battles
- Improved Pokemon like stat increases or ability replacements
- Convenient rewards
I guess dialogue changes are also there but I haven't seen a popular one that highlights changed dialogue as a feature.

ahem, yes. it's mostly a combination of limitations (gen 5's constantly animated sprites) and from what i know the hacking tools for gen 4 and onwards are nowhere near as extensive as they are for gen 1-3
