I admit, I missed your thread back when it was posted, looking at the dates, It actually seems like a pretty cool idea, though, looking at it, I could foresee some problems. Waiting for both users to be online probably wouldn't work as well as a post-as-you-can kind of thing. Notice that when 64DD and I were having our silly little debate, it extended over 24 hours, more or less! The other thing I notice with this old thread is it talks about users having "arguments" to compete, but then it mentions attacking and defenses. I'm not sure whether that's just a stylistic way of saying "argument and counterargument" or if it was supposed to be more like a roleplay, with characters actually described attacking and defending one another.
But that's all pretty old, so I guess it's a little late to talk about all of that, huh? Nevertheless, you had a cool core idea here. With a little refinement, you could revive it, probably. Shill it a bit, make sure people are aware of it. Or, you know... something like this could make a pretty fun 'Shroom section. You might overlap with 'Shroomfest too much if you did full-on arguments - people would get tired of arguing (it's why we space 'Shroomfests out). A full on "nominate a character each month" section might overlap with Mushroom Kingdom Smackdown, too. But maybe you could put the characters out there, with some descriptions, and let people vote for them instead! If they just want to put a vote down, great. If they want to write something more creative and detailed, it could be worth more! Then, you write a little story about the two contestants facing off, using a dice roll, weighted with the votes.
Ooooor, you know, it's always possible to do something like this again in Mindless Junk! After all, that's what the board is there for! It's for being silly, having fun. Don't be afraid to crack jokes in there, play along with other people, be a little silly and creative. It's also worth noting that this argument kind of evolved organically and without any prior planning, which is how a lot of the running joke things that I've done in the past got started. Sometimes just joking around and taking the posts as they come can cause a big fun back and forth like this. That said, I think an organized and pre-planned debate thing like your thread and Pitohui's suggestions could work pretty well. I'd also recommend that you participate in Shroomfests when they come, as that's a good way to have fun with this type of debating.
