Your parents need to grow up because there's nothing wrong for enjoying a feminine game with a female protagonist.

"a feminine game"
What?

Who cares what the protagonist is? SPP is a great game with a hilarious concept. If your family makes fun of you for it, let them play the game, too. Your brother might even actually enjoy it (one way or another).

I've called it a "feminine" game because the game's heavily marketed towards the female demographic in a similar way Doom attempts to appeal to dudebros. Even if gameplay and everything else is gender-neutral. This isn't even the first time I've read concerns about male players regarding Super Princess Peach and I honestly wish that, in this day and age, people would stop with the negative gender role attitude, especially towards boys enjoying stuff typically marketed for girls.

Doom? Doom is fucking awesome! It's hard but it's awesome. Classic Doom in particular.

Oh yeah, Doom is great, don't get me wrong. Killing zombiemen and imps never gets old.

I never considered Super Princess Peach to be a "feminine" game, even among the girls I talked to about it. It stars a female, nothing more about the game is overly feminine. Metroid stars Samus Aran, a female, but it's not a feminine game. I'd consider games like those in the Barbie line to be feminine, if anything.

People will judge you on literally everything, that's just how the human race is. But if their reason is nothing more than "bro why you play game with girl?", then their argument is invalid. Pay attention to the actual criticism, nothing more.

Take a good look at the game's box. The design uses soft and low contrast colors, with pink being the dominant one, as well as a very cute font and heart shaped motifs, as well as having a "princess power" tagline in the back of the box. Unlike Metroid, which is mostly gender-neutral, this was clearly designed to appeal to girls in some manner. And then, take a look at the commercial and promotional material for the game.

It's definitely designed to attract a female audience, regardless if your personal feelings about the game.

That's not meant to be a degrading thing. It's just what it is, and the vibe around it is exactly why a lot of guys have this embarrassed feeling about enjoying the game, when enjoying this game as a male shouldn't be any more stigmatized than a female enjoying Call of Duty.

I mean, it's certainly very bright and colorful, but so are most of the other Mario games. Even Kirby games have a similar appeal to them. I get the marketing is certainly geared toward female gamers (or just girls in general), but the game certainly doesn't "feel" feminine. Matter of looking past the game box and seeing the game for itself, I suppose.

Well, people who are going to judge someone like KingBoo are too short-sighted to look past that anyway so it helps to point out why it's stigmatized to begin with.

To be honest, the whole GFG thing has been dying out since the late 2000s. The only reason why those games were made was to cash in on a popular franchise for girls(My little Pony, Care Bears, Barbie, Disney Princess, Mary-Kate and Ashley, Strawberry Shortcake, Cabbage Patch Kids, LPS, Trollz, Bratz, The Powerpuff Girls, American Girl, The Imagine series, Moshi Monsters, Squinkies, Winx Club, Hannah Montana, Diva Starz, Zoey 101, etc.). It's okay for a guy to like girls stuff, though I consider stuff like Super Princess Peach and The Powerpuff Girls to be gender-neutral. And to be honest, I don't even think SPP was trying to go the GFG route. It wasn't a minigame collection. It wasn't repetitive. It wasn't boring. It wasn't made to cash in on a popular franchise. It wasn't made for five-year olds. It wasn't made by inexperienced game developers. It wasn't published by a third party. And the most important reason, it was a great game. GFG's tend to be repetitive and boring and either very easy or very difficult. SPP broke the boundaries, while not trying to be a GFG in the first place. And it should be appreciated for that!

Plus, check out this video that Tamashi Hiroka made back in 2015. It showcases how GFG's were in 2 different time periods: 1995-2005 and 2005-present.

Alright, finally realized that I've been judging the female marketing things too much. I guess that girl stuff doesn't matter.

Well it's not you that has a problem but your parents or your older brother that has a problem if they end up making fun of you for it. It's just a video game at the end of the day.
