Pokémon Mafia 2 - Game Thread (Day 5)

miller.gif

Aye, well - I'm not sure what people are wanting me to say on this one. A vanilla Miller I am. Fate's pretty much stuck me with the worst role in the game, it did. Were I a jester, at least I'd have a purpose to fill - and I'd have a good play to make. Best thing an old Miller can do though is sit around with my grain and wait for death to take me.

Nothin' to overthink. I'm willin' to change my vote and Vote: Clawgrip though. Not sure I like this fella's idea of bein' down a town member just to confirm somethin' I've been telling you for the past few days now.

(Hi, sorry, this has mean a really bad day for me, I have been trying to make this post for about the last six hours and things keep coming up so please don't hold the last minuteness against me too much)
Thinking.png

OK... so getting some more notes across the board has given me a few more ideas to go on. First, I'll Unvote: Waluigi Time, I think those are some real keen observations you've made there. And again, the Roserade and event Gulpin are continuing to make some good points, plus the Sandshrew has really stepped up to the plate and is making some great points too. I feel like putting claiming and defending aside, the Miller hasn't really made any huge swings, but they've at least pointed out a few things. So it mainly feels like Hariyama and Shmilbert are the only two who aren't committing to much... even with the popular vote, I feel like Shmilbert is the one I trust least- call it an instinct. Plus, even with the votes piling up, they aren't exactly doing a lot to fight it- and that seems both weird and kind of like what the Dhelmise did- it's a pattern that's at least worth considering, right? So I think I'll Vote: ClawgripFan9001, but if they come swinging in with a great last minute defense- or even just going into tomorrow- Hariyama, I'm really going to be looking at you. You might be a Fighting type, but I'd really start working on your defensive tactics sooner rather than later.

Vote Tally
ClawgripFan9001 (5) - Ninja Squid, Roserade, Yoshi the SSM, Fun With Despair. BBQ Turtle
Fun With Despair (2) - Waluigi Time, ClawgripFan9001
Cloudwalker (1) - Power Flotzo

: Hmm, so your suspicions fall upon Shmilbert. Something is amiss about him, yes… That mustache, how does he keep it in such pristine condition, even through the stress of our current predicament?

S2_Sage_h1yswh.png
: ...ah, what is it you say? It is not his facial hair that attracts your suspicion, but rather his capricious style of accusation? Y-Yes, I suppose that makes more sense… Well, all the same, Jolteon, please do us the favor.

Shmilbert (ClawgripFan9001) has fainted! Shmilbert was…

Role Card Lance.png

S2_Sage_h1yswh.png
: This… is truly unfortunate. However, there is naught we can do but continue our efforts. Do not allow dismay to overcome you. I believe the advantage remains with us… or so I hope.

IT IS NOW NIGHT THREE.

Use this time to privately submit actions to the hosts. You may submit your actions or ask questions in your role PMs. As stated in the lounge thread, night phases will last for 23 hours to allow the hosts time to process night actions.

Night Two ends at Adjusted Time .

What a terrible disappointment... To lose an admirable and powerful individual is disgraceful! I ought to exercise caution and reassess my strategy. I must say right now, that I am certain that one of our evildoers must have joined the votes against Mr. Shmilbert...

In any event, I will reflect upon this misguided fate by brewing a nice cup of tea. My soul is in distress as you may understand.

Knuckles: "Apparently, Shmilbert was the doctor. Big ouch. I took the risk and it caused the elimination of the one person who could protect people."

Knuckles: "But I hoped to have good intentions when I made my vote, of course. I hope you at least understand that. It was also a shot in the dark."

Alright

The next time the innocent doctor is on the block, please claim so we don't do that. You can always protect yourself the night following

S2_Sage_h1yswh.png
: Have we been forsaken? To arise and discover this, what other conclusion am I to draw? Has the violence and deceit transpiring in this shrine repulsed you once again and caused you to abandon Ecruteak? Oh, what folly on the part of us three, to believe this time right for this gathering!

S2_Sage_h1yswh.png
: Our guests, look and see what the night has delivered…

Calista (Waluigi Time) has fainted! Calista was…

The humble miller (Fun With Despair) has fainted! The humble miller was…

: SAGE MASA!

S2_Sage_h1yswh.png
: Sage Koji?

OtherSage_ufzkza.png
: You all must see what I have discovered! You must see the blessing bestowed upon us! Look for yourselves - he stands!

Shmilbert (ClawgripFan9001) has been revived!
ShmilbertRevived_lo9zgn.png

The revived player returns to the game with the same attributes and information they possessed at the time of their death.

S2_Sage_h1yswh.png
: I see now. Too hastily did I surrender to despair, lamenting our fate just as our predecessors. I saw only scattered fragments of wood and assumed the tower crumbled and lost, when instead the fragments invited me to take up a tool and make repairs. We must persevere, no matter who falls. So it is I am enlightened, and so it is that I turn again to you, venerated guests. Commence the day with hope renewed!

IT IS NOW DAY FOUR.

You may use this time to discuss suspicions and to cast votes towards a player's elimination. To place a vote, use the format: "Vote: Player". The player with the most votes at the end of the phase will be eliminated. To vote for no elimination, use the following format: "Vote: No elimination".

Day Four ends at Adjusted Time .

Well that sure was a night

Saying it now to make it immediately known: I was the vigilante and shot FWD. I don't have another shot under my belt, so there's hardly any reason to keep it a secret. I figured our best call was to just dispel the mystery outright, while also saving the death for night in case he did turn out to be the jester. Unfortunately, between Clawgrip dying and FWD actually being the miller, everything went exactly how I wouldn't want it to. So I'm very, very glad to see that Clawgrip is alive again to keep our numbers up

I honestly thought for certain that NS was dying tonight, and the fact that he didn't has caught me off guard. I suppose WT's death here is to potentially cast suspicion my direction since I mentioned some possible sus about his actions? But I'm the vigilante and nobody's going to counterclaim me so that strategy's a bust. Probably more likely that the Mafia rolecop spotted WT as our alignment cop on a previous night

I'm so sorry to our humble miller. You truly, truly got the short end of the stick -said before we learn he was a Mafia member with a disguised role upon death

Shmilbert.jpg

"Oh my, it appears as if Arceus has granted me a second chance in life...That is incredible...Anyhoo, I will cut straight to the chase and apologize for having led you all astray during the events of the third day. I had been afflicted with the drowsy status ailment, which in turn heavily impaired my astute thinking ability, which yet again in turn rendered me incapable of putting up a fight to plead my innocence. That, and because this is more of a low-stakes witch hunt that is less role-intensive compared to Rogues in Rogueport 2 or an Awards Mafia game, I lack the ability to properly get a read on the vibes being thrown around when all I have to go off of are votes and statements that are up to interpretation in regards to being true or false due to being text-based. That being said, I also find it very unfortunate that we had to discover that the humble miller really was just that - A humble miller, in this bittersweet manner. Subsequently, it is likewise very unfortunate that we have lost the investigative capabilities of Miss Calista, but we must not let it get ourselves down in the trenches. As Miss Blob (Ninja Squid) had acknowledged upon my first demise, there is undoubtedly one of the outlaws still in play who participated in my lynching during the previous day, and seeing as Miss Blob and the Roserade capable of speech are deemed non-suspicious in my eyes, and the humble miller has already bitten the flour-coated dust courtesy of the Roserade, that narrows down the pool significantly, wouldn't you say? So I am going to Vote: BBQ Turtle. What do you have to say for yourself in regards to joining the bandwagon that was my lynching during the previous day, hm?"

Shock.png

Well, I'm shocked, that didn't go to plan... but as for your suspicions Shmilbert, don't worry I have an explanation. I didn't want to risk putting all of this out too soon, but I haven't had the best luck with my role, I guess you could say. I've been sending out Elekid to see what's going on, but he's only one little guy, so each night I can send him to watch one person and find out who targeted them- not what they were targeted with or anything, he can only do so much. Proving it could be tricky if people aren't willing to corroborate this- but, if we work together, we've got a much better chance of catching those thieves! So you'll be able to see why I didn't have much luck- night 1 I tried to find out who targeted Xiahoa Ba and their Sandslash, and it was the Johtonian Cranidos who fainted the same night... but I do know that their targeting was a success, so hopefully the Sandslash can confirm they received a message on night 1? And then night 2, you went to the Miller, right? So, that combined with mounting suspicions on the Miller, you telling us your power couldn't help with sleuthing, and then your silence as soon as the pressure really ramped up- it all seemed like a pretty solid voting reason. Plus, if it was right, and I'll admit I think I was a little overconfident due to everyone else seeming to think the same thing, then I had a pretty good two step attack to potentially get another thief, if you'd been a protector and were protecting another, in this case, the Miller. Obviously with everything that's come out now, that's not even close to right, but there was some thinking behind my voting!

So, what did I find last night, now it's all out on the table? Much like the Roserade, I thought that the Event Gulpin was in trouble, so I went to see who targeted them. And you know who showed up? Absolutely no one! And I don't like that all. I feel like with all the people who've gone down, they might pretending to be helpful to build up trust and lead us astray, so I'm going to Vote: Ninja Squid, at least for now. I believe that the Roserade could be our vigilante, and of course we know Shmilbert's role, so that does help thin the pool a bit. I'm still not a fan of the Hariyama though, so if the Event Gulpin puts up a great defense, that's definitely where I'm looking next.

Shmilbert.jpg

"You better be right for your own sake, my friend. For I'll be keeping my vote on you for the time being until the crimson echidna (Yoshi the SSM) comes along and explains his reasoning for hopping on the bandwagon that led to my lynching during the previous day."

(Please can you at least confirm you targeted FWD on night 2?)
(Yes, I did target FWD that night, on account of wanting to make sure they weren't bluffing about being the Miller, even if my power wasn't exactly helpful in trying to discover that.)

Another massive wall of text incoming

I believe BBQ's claim. I can't imagine a world where Mafia has a watcher on their side, and we now have confirmation from our host-confirmed innocent doctor that the watcher's info is correct. Anyone who attempts to push a world where she's evil is getting my vote today

So, what did I find last night, now it's all out on the table? Much like the Roserade, I thought that the Event Gulpin was in trouble, so I went to see who targeted them. And you know who showed up? Absolutely no one! And I don't like that all. For what it's worth, I don't think it's horrifically unusual for NS to not have been visited last night. We've already knocked off the roleblocker, so nobody would target NS for that. WT's death implies to me that they have a role cop (or other investigation role), so if NS is an innocent and was never visited, this means that the role cop probably visited him on an earlier night. And of course, the last scenario would be if NS was the target of a nightkill, which didn't happen here. I think it's possible that the Mafia already received info about NS early and are holding off on killing him for one reason or another

With that said... my head is floating between two worlds right now. There is a feasible world where NS is Mafia, and it becomes more feasible the more our numbers dwindle. Here's how we could conceptualize it:
-NS votes No Elimination on day 1 in a bid to look better, and gets defensive when I call it out as a potential strategy because he himself is evil
-NS votes Boo on day 2 to appear more innocent later, because why would a Mafia vote for their own so early on? But then, NS gets into a bit of a bind when Coco votes for Boo. The entire scenario he described on day 3, about how the Mafia couldn't make any big vote switches without drawing considerable dire - that's exactly what happens to him, and he can't do anything to save Boo. So instead, he takes the opportunity to set himself long-term with town's good graces
-Coco dies night 2 because NS, despite being a powerful social player, cannot die at night on account of being part of the Mafia
-His improvised plan works a charm. The next day, he decides to flip things around on his opinion of me and say that he thinks I'm innocent, perhaps in an effort to hitch onto a vocal innocent player
-Day 3, he's able to effectively lead a day elimination against the doctor by utilizing those gathered good graces

Now, to be clear, everything I just said could be wrong. Clearly I haven't been at the top of my game, if FWD's death is anything to go off of. But we're dwindling in numbers to the point that it's seriously worth considering

In my eyes, we're still searching for two Mafia members, so let's look at both possible realities - NS is mafia and NS is innocent - and see who becomes more prime suspects in each:

If NS is a member of the Mafia

-ClawgripFan is cleared as a host-confirmed innocent doctor

-BBQ is cleared as a mutually-confirmed Watcher

-I stand with my vigilante claim

-Cloudwalker (then Revin) was the subject of the Fanta d1 jokevote, but a theory that the n1 kill was done in retaliation was posited by Boo. NS also actually made mention of this possibility at the beginning of d2, which would imply Mafia coordination on who they might try to make a target out of. Then made no mention of Cloudwalker on d3, which I would initially read as attempting to keep suspicion away from his Mafia scumbuddy, but I'm not sure is entirely the case here. Keeping silent about a specific player could just as easily make us suspicious of them when we figure out that he's Mafia. There's also WT's post from d3:
To then immediately eliminate one of the two after Solarus' deception was revealed almost feels as if the corruption is trying to gain whatever advantage they can out of a poor situation and direct our attention somewhere very specific. What was he calling himself again? Sonic? Ditto? Perhaps worth keeping an eye on, but I don't think he's who we should be trying to uproot.
While this is already some good deductive argument on its own, with the added hindsight of WT being alignment cop, it's possible that he knew more about Cloudwalker's innocence than he let on publicly. All of this adds up to me to say that in the NS is Mafia world, Cloudwalker feels innocent to me

-YtSSM was also not mentioned on d3, and he nor BLOF have been brought up in conversation by NS at all. This feels a little suspect alongside YtSSM being the third vote on the doctor kill d3. YtSSM quickly voted for Power Flotzo on d3, who is somebody that NS also tossed some passive suspicion towards, so that could've been coordinated to split our attention between PF and Clawgrip

-PF was named as a suspicious party on d3, but without much conviction on NS's part. PF also mentioned the manufactured feud between Coco and Revin/Cloudwalker on d2, and called both halves of this suspicious. This would be pretty much every Mafia member flashing out their rhetorical hands at once, so hopefully this isn't true. I do actually have one other weird vibe from him, though:
View attachment 67836
I still do not have any leads to go off, other than NS could very well be the innocent cop as he was the one leading the charge against Solarus.
I was really confused on why PF would say this if he thought it was true. What good would calling out a potential innocent cop be for town? It almost sounded like he was baiting NS to get targeted by the Mafia, which wouldn't make sense to do if he was Mafia. But then I thought about the possibility of this being bait for the doctor instead. If NS and PF are both Mafia, this could've been PF attempting to get the doctor to waste night protection on a scumbuddy instead of someone who actually needed it

To me, if NS is Mafia, it's either PF or YtSSM as his partner in crime. It's hard for me to say with enough clarity which one it is, but I miiiiight be leaning more in PF's direction

If NS is an Innocent

-ClawgripFan is cleared as a host-confirmed innocent doctor

-BBQ is cleared as a mutually-confirmed Watcher

-I stand with my vigilante claim

-Cloudwalker position's feels similar to me here. Although the evidence that NS was attempting to call attention to Fanta's n1 death would no longer remain relevant, WT's statement about Cloud remains intact, as does the way that Boo was attempting to throw her under the bus and PF's vote for her on d3

-This would mean that we have our last two Mafia members: PF and YtSSM, who were attempting to manufacture a conflict between them on d3 by having YtSSM immediately jump out of the gate with a PF vote before swapping over to the Doctor. This is possible, but might've been a little risky in case the PF vote caught on. Still, it would've been an effective cover for YtSSM to carry on into the endgame without much heat on his shoulders

All of this is to say: I think we just about have our game figured out. I feel fairly confident that our two options for our second Mafia member are Power Flotzo and Yoshi the SSM. There are seven of us alive, which means that if we vote out one of them today, and they flip innocent, we have the available time to vote out the other one tomorrow (unless the Mafia has the ability to kill two players in the night somehow, which I wouldn't expect in a 12 player game (-person who said this about there being a vanilla miller)). If our first attempt ends up nailing a Mafia member, we reassess how we feel between the other vs. NS tomorrow

To this end, I'm going to vote: Power Flotzo for the more thorough feelings of sus I got up above, but I won't be too upset if the vote goes in the other direction. I imagine one of them is potentially a spent reviver role with Clawgrip back in the game, and both our doctor and alignment cop are known, so theoretically neither of them will be a critical innocent role to lose if we're wrong

Even with all that I've said, @Super Jack Sunshine, I need you to read the game thread, get your bearings, and participate. You will be critical in proceedings now that numbers are getting slim. I won't put a vote on you but I will beg you publicly to put thoughts out there

"The Roserade is right as Rain Dance with their assessment of both scenarios where Miss Blob (Ninja Squid) flips town or mafia alike, and the crimson echidna (Yoshi the SSM) has a reasonable argument in response to any of the fingers pointed their direction, my own included, but that could very well be nothing more than bupkis just as any statement given during one of these games. Seeing as the Roserade believes the blonde (BBQ Turtle), and they're one of the more trustworthy players left standing, I shall Unvote: BBQ Turtle, and Vote: Yoshi the SSM, on the account of the Roserade's assessment of the crimson echidna (Yoshi the SSM) and Power Flotzo being our prime suspects in being the remaining two Mafia aligned players left standing. Only time will tell if that actually ends up ringing true."

Now, I ought to consider how best to proceed, and frankly, I would be lying if I said that I was not dwelling on how our last elimination left me looking a complete and utter fool. I must correct that mistake. I will not let these evildoers going away with this!

Good gracious, a lot has happened! That compelled me to reconsider certain information that had come to light over the course of our investigation. Furthermore, we have our apparent Doctor back, which is good news for us after the regrettable deed we have committed last day. Also, it does seem we had a Vigilante with us under Roserade, claim reinforced by the fact that there were two casualties tonight.

RP_Cecilia_Portrait.png

At the present, my suspicions are settling more heavily upon dear Spark (BBQ Turtle), Hariyama (Power Flotzo), and Mr. Ditto (Cloudwalker):

  • I have noticed that dear Spark (BBQ Turtle) seems rather reluctant to get his hands dirty or involve himself much more than necessary. On Day 1, he abstained from voting under the pretext of holding off just in case. Then, on Day 2, he pressured Miss Calista (Waluigi Time), though notably did not cast a vote against them. If you look at the timeline, Mr. Shmilbert had just removed their vote from Miss Calista when dear Spark made that push. I cannot help but wonder whether Spark deliberately avoided putting himself in a position where he could be held responsible for a potential mislynch, should it come to pass. He then followed that by voting against Hariyama on the grounds that they were being too quiet, which, to be fair, is a position that I find myself agreeing with. Ultimately, on Day 3, Spark once again pressured Miss Calista, this time actually casting a vote, only to move on to Mr. Shmilbert at the very end of the phase, effectively ensuring their elimination. There is a pattern here that I find curious. He seems quite willing to apply pressure, but often without committing himself until the outcome is clear enough. I may be reading too much into this, pardon me, but I do think it is difficult to not take this into further consideration.

  • As for Hariyama (Power Flotzo), they have been far too quiet for my liking. They did not vote at all during Day 2, choosing to hold off on the grounds that they had no good leads. Then, on Day 3, they voted for Ditto, seemingly hiding behind the excuse of simply following the pressure vote, which, I think is far too easy to overlook. Beyond that, their overall involvement during our investigation has been minimal at best, and very little of their contribution has struck me as helpful. We are now to the fourth day of the investigation, and I believe we are reaching a critical point. By now, we shall be expecting that any of us have at least some small spark of suspicion towards something. Remaining this quiet, to this extent, is becoming difficult for me to overlook.

  • The same could be said of Ditto (Cloudwalker). I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubts, given that they are a replacement, but even accounting for their predecessor, their overall involvement has been minimal at best. For this day, I will be expecting them to be more forthcoming. If they stick at remaining quiet, I am afraid I will have very little reason to give them as pass.

  • I'm not sure what to think of Mr. Knuckles (Yoshi the SSM) at the current moment. He does at the very least appear to be actively involved and active with the investigation? Though, I may, of course be totally mistaken. At present, I find it rather difficult to form a fair judgment on him. I will remain on the lookout for them today.

With all of these thoughts now out, I will cast my a vote towards Power Flotzo. While I may switch my vote later if need be, these minimal commitments must come to an end.

Vote: Power Flotzo

I would love for NS to post some refined thoughts with the claim that BBQ has put on the table. If you still find things suspect, how does the watcher claim affect your feelings?

View attachment 67914Knuckles: "You need to remember, that I am a replacement and thus why would I receive the message. That is, if you are talking about me."
When you replaced, you should have received all information that your replace-ee received. If not the specific message, you should've at least gotten confirmation that you received a message from Fanta at all

I would know because the last time I played Pokemon Mafia, I replaced a Mafia member and got ousted because I claimed to not have received information on replacement. This was mod confirmed to be misleading info, so I would encourage you not to fall into the same trap I did

You are a watcher, huh? Very well, I ought to reconsider what I previously said already...

An unfortunate situation really, I must said that I was hoping with dear Solarus's fainting that I had ruffle the feathers of some evildoers, yet it doesn't seem to have been ultimately effective. Indeed, I was hoping to have been attacked by them. Why? Well...

My slimy skim is thougher than it appears to be, for I am the Bulletproof, and yes, if I was victim of their attack, I would gain knowledge of such occurence. As you may understand by now, this has not happened so far. I was hoping to keep this under wrap hoping our evildoers would waste a night coming at me, but now though, considering our smaller numbers, I presume that is no longer necessary and making such claim may help us find our evildoers more easily.

And of course, the last scenario would be if NS was the target of a nightkill, which didn't happen here. I think it's possible that the Mafia already received info about NS early and are holding off on killing him for one reason or another

On further reflection, that may well account for why they have yet to make me their victim. It had not occurred to me until now. But with the death of our Alignment Cop, while I, for my part, have yet to receive their visit, I find it entirely possible that a potential Role Cop may have chosen to visit me either before or after Solarus's elimination. That brings to mind something Hariyama (Power Flotzo) said, namely that I perhaps have been a Cop myself. I cannot help but wonder whether there may be a connection between the two. Perhaps the Role Cop deemed worth checking what role I had.

Now though, something here doesn't make sense. So far, we have a Bulletproof, a Watcher, a Vigilante, a Doctor, and some kind of Reviver if I understand correctly? Mr. Knuckles asserted he was not the one to revive the Doctor, then what? That would leave us with dear Ditto and Hariyama, which... if we have two evildoers remaining would mean that one among Mr. Ditto and Hariyama is a reviver. If the reviver is innocent? Then, the two of them cannot be evildoers???

There is some machinations going around and I do not like this!

Apologies for speaking again this soon, however, if we follow that logic and assuming everyone is telling the truth, then, by elimination process, wouldn't that mean Mr. Knuckles and someone between Hariyama and Mr. Ditto are our evildoers?

That's correct, assuming there's been no fibs in our role claims today. Bulletproof is a pretty easy role to claim to the extent that it explains why a Mafian wouldn't have died at night, but it's also a very common role so it runs the risk of being counterclaimed quickly. So for now I'm willing to believe NS unless someone else wants to call his bluff

EDIT to add: there is also a world where the Mafia know all of the roles still in play between public claims and rolecops, and NS is putting out a bluff because he knows that there's no Bulletproof around to counterclaim him. Just a possibility that came to mind and should be named, even if it feels a bit less likely to me at this moment

For the reasons I detailed in my massive post, I feel pretty good about Cloudwalker being innocent right now, which is why I'm directing my vote towards PF. If he flips innocent, then I'll do some reassessment of my feelings on Cloudwalker. However, you're right that if YtSSM is telling the truth and isn't the reviver, and if every other roleclaim currently public is honest, then he must be Mafia (assuming we're in a game with three on the Mafia team, which I would be shocked if it wasn't true)
