Christmas: too soon?

It seems like every year, Santa takes up more and more of the calendar. I started seeing Christmas commercials back before Halloween this year. That's a little too soon to start having specials, imo.

I love Christmas, what it symbolizes and all that, but I hate how commercial it's gotten. It takes the meaning out of the holiday.
 
What meaning? Some kind of great dinner in honor of Jesus? I much prefer commercial video games and DVDs Christmas to having people shove Christianity down my throat.

Commercialism=good
 
Christmas has gotten way to commercialized for my liking; I still get all giddy when it starts getting close, though. That said, I don't think Christmas should necessarily be recognized as a Christian holiday either...or at least not fully. Call me a softy, but Christmas should always be about your family, yourself, and giving to those that are in need. Christmas shouldn't just be about being selfless, because you're important too; hell, it's natural to be a little "selfish" in a while, and if you're giving to others, it can't really be all that selfish. My family has had two Christmases in which we've had a lot of nice presents -- one in '95, and one in '07. All the other Christmases were either average or very poor when it came to having material possessions. ...But we still managed to make the best out of it.

I think if more people looked at Christmas as a time for happiness and family, as opposed to Christianity or commercialism, a lot more people would enjoy Christmas in a completely different way.

...I get what you mean, but I can't say I think that commercialism is good.

Not really. Christmas is a one day holiday if you celebrate it like most people do (and if you celebrate the twelve days of Christmas, it goes into the first week of January).
