Other changes:
Nitros are absent
The hud is simpler
The checkpoint crate has the letters spiral and make a sound.
There are no gems or keys to collect.
There are only Tawna bonus rounds and they take place in a cave.
The title screen is different, it shows Brio lifting Tawna into the Cortex Vortex.
The passwords use character icons instead of button presses.
Whole Hog and Castle Machinery are absent.
The boss health is a series of dots.
Aku Aku doesn't turn white in Lights Out.
The projectiles Cortex shoots are orange instead of purple.
The slimes in N.Brio's fight can only be jumped on when they turn green.
Ripper Roo's laugh is slower and deeper.
TNT's have a different timer.
