personally i think the first two new soups were two big ones but above all i'd say super mario galaxy 2 had the most influence on getting me into mario

Mario Kart games also tend to sell really well, often being on the top of the charts in best-selling games (such as Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe). I would say that Mario Kart has started to sell more recently, so perhaps the series is a bigger source of new fans than the New Super Mario Bros. series. Its games are also (with the exception of MKT) of a consistently good quality, it's one of the Mario sub-series that keeps on giving good quality games, and no drastic gameplay changes were implemented. Perhaps that's the reason why the series sells so well.
