Oh, my sole preference shouldn't drive a whole thread…you gotta run with your initial creative instinct. But it would help to know in certain ways. For example, I''m guessing then that the Koopas didn't attack the ice kingdom yet, so there may not necessarily be a big looming threat over the land. Is that right?

That would be correct. But I feel like there is a massive amount of tension throughout the land bc of Bowser's actions elsewhere.

I don't think that would be easier. I can make a thread and add a little to Chrysanthe's bio for after the movie, however, if that would work for you!
