On 6/28/1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated in Sarajevo, Bosnia by Gavrilo Princip, leading to a series of debates and declarations starting World War 1, which would last 4 years.

Let us commemorate this occasion and remember those who lost their lives in this event.

Um Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated on 28 June 1914, not 4 August 1914.

Also WWII itself started on 28 July 1914, not 4 August 1914.

No not really

They teach it, but kids today apparently can't be bothered to learn much about the largest and most devastating conflicts in world history.

As for not knowing dates... if you know the year that's close enough for me, considering these wars lasted years. I've never been too good at remembering exact dates, they all end up mixing together in my head.

They do, but I hate remembering exact dates because I never remember them.

They teach it loads over here in England.

Because it's a big part of English history

In Ireland primary schools usually do the stuff on concentration camps and a few bits and pieces on each sides but it's really not a big thing
Junior Cert's course on it is only worth like 10% so it's not focused on massively
Not sure about Leaving Cert tho

None of the teachers I've had have taught exact dates.
