I think mods don't really keep track about it to care really, or they have way too much other stuff in mind so they forget about it :P

it's both pretty much. nobody really has the time and energy to bring it up to speed anymore, and nobody really cares too much about it

Plus, it's pretty redundant anyway, since you could easily check peoples' profiles to see what their normal usernames are.
