Sub-Director

This thread is to not necessarily set exact standards to the roles of, but to suggest new ideas and roles for the second-in-command of the 'Shroom, as well as the Director him/her-self.

While I was the "inaugural" Sub-director (no longer at that position), and my roles at the time, which I offered to do for the director, Blitzwing at the time, were: archiving articles, updating templates and dates, and discussing general matters with the Director. I also had a minor part in the Director's notes section as well. The whole purpose was to take off some of the load from the director, as well as act as an interim Director until the next election in case the incumbent one abruptly retires for whatever reason. I realize that there have been at least a couple other sub-directors since, and would appreciate input from those as well. Dividing up work for efficiency is essential in keeping the 'Shroom high-quality and organized, as well as keeping readers interested.

Having a sub-director definitely is a good thing. It helps a LOT. This year, the roles of the subdirector were to update the single page, archive, and help give shroomwarnings. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, it would greatly help.

Also, the current "standards" to choose the sub, is to be chosen by the Director. Do you agree? We made it that way because it is better to work with someone you get well along, and that you know is responsible, that with the runner-up, with who perhaps you dont get along so well.

I'm glad to hear that the position is so helpful. :)

I wholly agree with the fact that it's more efficient to work with somebody you know you can work well with. While being appointed by the Director is a good possibility, I also think anyone who wants to be the Sub-Director deserves a chance to become it. If we do make a list of requirements and duties of a Sub-director, users wanting to become it would know what to expect from it, and if they can't carry out those duties timely and accurately, they know they would be fired. I'm hesitant about a voting system, because it would likely slow down the process. Any ideas?

Voting isn't really that much of a problem to me. It works for pretty much most of the world. People normally complain in the end, but it works.

What exactly is the core staff?

The 'Shroom's main staff members. They're yellow in "Who's Online" and have the "Core 'Shroom Staff" ranking.

Yeah, I think it would be better for a small number of people to vote, rather than the general public. It could even be one of the writers, if it isn't already, as I did while doing my Character Comparison section.

Thank you based god
Jackie: Per. Congress makes a lot of decisions in America, just like Parliament makes a lot of decisions in Great Britain. Sure, the president or prime minister might be the most powerful individual, but Congress has more power as a whole.

Perhaps it could be that the Director runs with a sub-director pre-picked (kind of like President and Vice-President)? It would make sense to do that if an alternative way is selected, but the current way is not bad either.

SMB's idea sounds nice, however, it is late to apply it in this election. Also, remember that the rules also state that the Director also gets to choose the 'Core Staff. If I get to win, I will choose some active writer as part of it.

Sounds good. But we should probably come up with a system set in stone for future elections.

Perhaps the idea of running with him wont work. WHat if you want another candidate to be your sub-director?

Well, if the person you want to run with wants to run on his/her own for the Director position, they would probably decline the request to run as Sub-director.

That.

We could also have it where that a candidate for Director cannot be chosen for running for another position. That would be too hectic. Anyway, the Director should be able to choose the Core Staff as they do now (yet again, kind of like American politics: the President gets to choose his or her cabinet).

However, perhaps we could have it where the sub-director chooses the Editor-In-Chief? It would give the sub a bit more power over The 'Shroom.

Well, the election rules clearly say that the Editor in Chief is not a chooseable position by the Director, this is, because not many people have what it takes to become the EiC. The way of choosing him will be, when YS retires from the job, the Core Staff will make a thread or something to see who wants to become EiC, and of the people that appoint themselves, they will choose the new EiC.
