M2. Favorite Supporting Character
by Sparks
All of these characters have only 1 vote! They aren't totally forgotten, just lesser known than the others. Because so many characters (18 to be exact!) tied for last place, no images of them are present. It'd take up the entire presentation! Let's give them all some recognition at least.
All 5 characters listed above are tied with 2 votes each! That's double the amount of the first 18 we just went over. Looks like all of these guys need some support too…
The rest of the supporting characters aren't tied with any others, so now I can give out a brief summary on who they are! The Talking Flowers certainly made their mark in the most recent mainline Mario game: Super Mario Bros. Wonder! They all have funny (and sometimes secret) dialogue they speak under different circumstances. Although not all players like to listen to their chatter, so they just mute them. Would you mute them though?
Talking Flower ranked at 20th place with 4 votes.
Penny ranked at 19th place with 5 votes.
Grape (also known as Madame Grape) is the antagonist of Princess Peach's most recent solo act, Princess Peach: Showtime! She and her Sour Bunch gang have taken over the Sparkle Theater, and so it's up to Peach and Stella to take her and her army down! She even has a stronger form known as Grape the Great.
Grape ranked at 18th place with 11 votes.
Stella is another character that appears in Princess Peach: Showtime! Unlike Grape however, Stella is an ally who helps out Princess Peach rather than hinder her. She evens allows Peach to transform into many different themes depending on the show, each with their own abilities. Who doesn't love the power of Sparkle?
Stella ranked at 17th place with 16 votes.
Dixie Kong is Diddy Kong's girlfriend with a unique ponytail that functions similarly to a helicopter! Ever since Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong's Quest, Dixie Kong has helped her fellow Kong's to take down any threat, from angry crocodiles to invading penguins. She even starred in her own game - Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!
Dixie Kong ranked at 16th place with 36 votes.
That's not a Wiggler, that's Prince Florian! He's the guide character in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Being prince of the Flower Kingdom, he knows it like the back of his hand! He's determined to save his kingdom from the pesky Bowser.
Prince Florian ranked at 15th place with 37 votes.
Oh King Bob-omb, I may not like you that much but he's pretty popular among the fans. He's been challenging Mario and his friends since the good old days (Do I sound old saying that?) of Super Mario 64. He's got a magnificent moustache, maybe even rivaling Mario's!
King Bob-omb ranked at 14th place with 41 votes.
Have you ever had a purple bipedal rabbit steal something from you? That'd be Nabbit! Stealing since New Super Mario Bros. U, Nabbit has made himself known as the most popular thief in the franchise (at least in the mainline games). Sometimes he's even playable - with invincibility to boot.
Nabbit ranked at 13th place with 62 votes.
Ashley is a witch and main character in the WarioWare franchise, starting out in WarioWare: Touched! She and her imp companion Red have been casting all sorts of spells throughout the games. She's maybe also a little monotone. Nothing wrong with that!
Ashley ranked at 12th place with 75 votes.
Toadsworth's been always worrying about Princess Peach since Super Mario Sunshine. Can you really blame him though? What if there was something you care about dearly? The question is, why isn't he in new Mario games? Not counting remakes. He should be brought back!
Toadsworth ranked at 11th place with 84 votes.
If you've seen a Yoshi-like creature that's pink, wears a bow, has a wedding ring (who is she married to?) and spits out eggs, then that's Birdo! She was a boss in Yuma Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic (which would eventually be Super Mario Bros. 2) but would have friendly and playable appearances in recent games.
Birdo ranked at 10th place with 88 votes.
How can you say "no" to that adorable face? Poochy has been helping out Yoshi ever since Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island but has had some mainline appearances as well. He's commonly seen in hint arts for Super Mario Odyssey! He's so cute!
Poochy ranked at 9th place with 98 votes.
Donkey Kong's best friend and sidekick (not his son) has been swinging from trees and eating bananas since Donkey Kong Country. He even had his own racing game! Of course, his Nintendo cap makes him easily recognizable. I just wonder why his voice is so weird in the Super Smash Bros. games.
Diddy Kong ranked at 8th place with 103 votes.
Pauline (also known as "Lady") made her debut in the arcade classic Donkey Kong! She's also the one who needs saving in some of the Mario vs. Donkey Kong games. Her most well-known appearance is in Super Mario Odyssey, where she sings the iconic "Jump Up Super Star!" Quite catchy.
Pauline ranked at 7th place with 117 votes.
Kamek is an adviser to King Bowser who has been at it since Super MarioWorld2: Yoshi's Island. He's very persistent and never gives up easily, despite everything that happens. He's difficult to distinguish from a normal Magikoopa however, and what happened to his voice?
Kamek ranked at 6th place with 120 votes.
We've reached the top 5! King Boo is the king of the Boos (surprise) who has been haunting Luigi's nightmares since Luigi's Mansion. He has two different appearances: one normal and one nightmarish. He is Luigi's archnemesis and has a knack for trapping things in paintings.
King Boo ranked at 5th place with 127 votes.
It's a ghost with a top hat that has eyes on it! Kinda. Well that's actually Cappy, Mario's fashionable companion in Super Mario Odyssey. He allows Mario to take over enemies and control them, and he has some pretty cool hat tricks of his own. He is also a older brother of Tiara, who is ranked lower in this list.
Cappy ranked at 4th place with 157 votes.
In third place we have Funky Kong! This cool, chill ape has made quite a splash ever since his introduction in Donkey Kong Country. He's also a pretty popular choice among Mario Kart players! He also owns a surfboard and is a skilled mechanic.
Ranked at 3rd place with 158 votes is Funky Kong!
Earning the silver medal for achieving second place with 161 votes is Professor Elvin Gadd, commonly known as Professor E. Gadd! He's an elderly scientist who knows a lot about ghosts and makes some interesting inventions. Ever since Luigi's Mansion, He's been assisting Luigi with his ghost-catching advice. But who's the most voted side character? Check below!
And here we have it! The winner, with a total of 191 votes is Captain Toad! HeKs been out and adventuring with his Toad Brigade since Super Mario Galaxy, and he made minor appearances in later games. It wasn't until Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker where he was the main focus! He must rescue Toadette from the nefarious Wingo. Just because he can't jump doesn't mean he's not fit for adventure!
Total votes: 1719
