The topic of dubbing and voice actors attracts a lot of very passionate people, and with that, a lot of overeagerness. Our page for quote-unquote voice actors are not exempt. I observe three recurring problems:
- If someone who has another role in production but was asked to record a few grunts...
An employee of the defunct video game outlet Kikizo has been digitzing tapes recorded by the magazine. This includes the 2000 Nintendo Spaceworld presentation and its showcase of Super Mario 128, making for the highest quality and most comprehensive footage of the game yet. Watch as hundred of...
The wiki's coverage for physical toys and other merch is lackluster. The stuff is rarely mentioned on characters page, and when it is, it's usually and short and very not-exhaustive sections. Pages about the stuff tend to be also lacking, rarely giving details on the manufacturer or release date...
We sail in uncharted waters as we have been privately contacted by a credible source sharing extensive plot and casting details about Ilumination's Mario movie. What do you think about it?
Did you know the Danish dub of Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 had live-action skits? I sure didn't but it turns out one "TheSonicolas" has started uploading them on YouTube with english subtitles so that the world can enjoy their bizarre writing, upsetting acting and rock-bottom production...
Back in 2018, there was a major hack that hit Nintendo, and various information obtained from it have filtered out over the years. Today's the biggest drop and one of the biggest leak in video game history as ton of stuff is getting released including protos, master roms for Nintendo's entire 8...
Some years back, it leaked out that Archie had pitched a Mario comic to Nintendo and a few pages of art for it. Today author Ian Flynn made a twitter detailling what it would've been about, including the outline for its storyline and the corporate politics that got it rejected
What do you...
In a post he recently made on GameFaqs, ~industry insider~ Vergeben listed WarioWare Switch as something he heard about among various other things, though he is unsure if it'll be shown at E3. Here's a cap of the post in question.
The reason I'm taking this seriously is that the post proves...
Today the French magazine Le Monde published an interview with noted Mario artist Yoichi Kotabe about his work at Nintendo. It's all very interesting and while you're certainly going to see bits and pieces over the internet in the next few days, I figured I could put the full thing in English...
Love 'em or hate 'em, the first person shooter has been a staple of the video game industry since Doom quantifiably reduced the productivity of the American workplace and it's here to stay. I noticed there are some budding ego-shooter fans on this board, so wheter you want to talk old school key...
Kotaku recently sat down with WarioWare director Goro Abe to talk about the development of WarioWare Gold, and for the first article in the series, they posted about the making-of the iconic microgame Gold Digger. It,s a good read, and it shows even the simplest-seeming games need a lot of...
In September 2018, "Vantage Point Interviews", a blog devoted to interviewing people on the fringe of pop-culture, published a lenghty interview with freelance writer Perry Martin who had written multiple episodes for all three of DIC's Mario cartoons. In addition to being a surprisingly candid...
Internet denizen and video game manga archivist extraordinaire ragey0 recently published a post on his personal website detailling all the serialized Mario universe mangas he's aware of. I think it,s worth drawning attention to because there's a lot of obscure stuff in there (a manga based on...
While the page for the show itself is fine, information about Captain N: The Game Master is very lacking. Pages about characters who were protagonists on the show like Pit and Mega Man don't mention it at all, and the show's section on the Donkey Kong page is very short (Literally 4 shorts...
For those not aware, the Japanese version of Nintendo Badge Arcade had an april fool's gag in 2017 that "announced" a new game titled Crazy Galaxy, starring an adult version of Ashley and her four new friends, Claudia (the girl with the gun), Coco (the cook) Vanessa (megaphone) and Anna (penny...
It's been rumoured for a while but now it's official: New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Super Mario Galaxy (among other games) will be ported to Nvidia's Shield portable game console in China, presumably whenever it releases there.
This is noteworthy both for the fact there is now an official HD...
So year ago, a bunch (read: a lot) of people got together to reanimate Mama Luigi. While this is fan content, I feel it's worthy of a thread in this section because it's amazing.
They really do, and they haven't gotten much better since the above picture was made. In this post, I'm focusing on game pages because that's what my mind is on, but recurring characters page are also lackluster and I'll get to them eventually. It's not a standardised kind of suck however. Some...
There are a bunch of cancelled Mario games and rejected pitches to Nintendo that exist with very little information beside maybe one piece of concept art or vague information about the premise or which people were involved in it. Some are mentioned on the wiki, many are not. Stuff like
-The...
Exactly what it says on the tin. What Mario game offends your aesthetic sensibilities the most?
Initially I was going to nominate Yoshi's Island DS what with the inconsistent shading, extreme color banding and the Crime Against God that is Bowser's sprite.
but then I remembered
I...
Currently the "development" section of the Donkey Kong Country page start with this sentence:
Well, apparently there's a deeper story behind this. Tony Harman was interviewed for the recent-ish book Console Wars and the book briefly talks about how he had an argument with NCL, who asserted...
In 2004, British racing game developer Climax pitched a Diddy Kong Racing sequel to Nintendo for the Gamecube, which was rejected for unknown reasons. The pitch proposed the return of Wizpig and DKR's story mode strucutre, the ability to change vehicles mid-race and special moves for each...
I realize this is a somehat odd premise since Mario isn't exactly know for its dense writing, but what the hell. What do you think are the Mario/Donkey Kong/Wario medias with the worst dialogue? It can be funny or cringeworthy, an individual line or a general apprasail of the writing, whatever...
Yesterday, I was reading Pikipedia and I was pleased to find high-quality articles about things like randomized elements in the Pikmin games, frames and how the dungeon room generation in Pikmin 2 works. While having an article called "Randomness" may look kind of funny at first glance, all of...
Some times ago, I found out John Grusd had an active personal website. I toyed with the idea of sending him questions about his work at DiC and after talking about it with the other staff members, I sent him an email. To my surprise, he graciously agreed to do an interview!
Wait, who?
Well...
Hey paisanos, guess what? After years of Satoru Iwata and Tatsumi Kimishima hinting at grand plans for a new era of Nintendo cross-media deals, it's finally happening! Nintendo has officialy announced a brand new filmic universe in patnership with Sony Pictures. Part of the first phase is of...
Yoshi's Safari has no ending credits sequences. Some sites credit Nintend R&D1 as the developers, but provide no sources. I don't think the game was made by Nintendo because of my reasoning below and there is no reason for the company to obmit staff credits on this random game, when Nintendo was...
I asked a bunch of Mario fansites admins if it would be kosher to rehost any original interviews, or translations, on the wiki.
Out of the responses I got, the folks at the Italian Mario fansite and fellow Mushroom World Encyclopedia member Mario Castle stunned me with their offer to not only...
About a month ago, I created a Mariowiki youtube account to dupe videos of hard-to-find Mario arcade games.
I didn't expect to do anything more with that account until a long while, but as it turns out, long-time website Gamestrailers suddenly and unexpectedly announced it would shut down as of...
Just a few minutes ago, three people well-connected in the gaming industry announced they were told were told by "5 different sources" that a new Paper Mario for Wii U is in development and will be announced during the year. Earlier it was rumoured an Intelligent Systems employeee mentioned it...
Dayvv Brooks is a former NOA employee who edited the wiki in 2012 and eventually contacted the staff to confirm some stuff about the localized names in Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World. Obviously, it was a very memorable experience for us!
Turns out that Kotaku interviewed him today...
About an hour ago, John Romero uploaded gameplay footage of a PC port of Super Mario Bros. 3 id Software pitched to Nintendo in 1990. While that id tred to port SMB3 has been known for several years, this is the first time footage of the port is available to the public. It's a pretty cool bit of...
It's been a while since we've had a new addition to the staff team, so I'm happy to announce RandomYoshi has been promoted to patroller, effective today. I'm sure he will be a valued addition to the team.
No, really. According to several Chinese internet users, the wiki and several others owned by Porplemontage are inexplicably blocked by China's infamous firewall.:

so someone on donkey kong universe discovered there's a kaizo mario-style romhack for Donkey Kong Country 2. Here's a full playthrough of it.
It's insane, it's cruel, and it's beautiful. If you thought the Kaizo Mario formula was well and truly tired, think again!
I've been retweeting some of this stuff on the wiki's twitter feed, but for the benefit of those not following that: Rare employee and DKC lead designer Gregg Mayles has recently posted on his twitter account a lot of development documents for the original Donkey Kong Country, and it's stuff...
A recently-passed proposal mandates the ban(*) of the term beta in articles and a change to the name of the Beta Elements. Existing "beta" pages are to be moved to the name List of [Game] pre-release and unused content
The cliffs notes is that "beta" as it is used right now is inaccurate and...
Continuing our proud tradition of being three years behind the curve, the Super Mario Wiki staff has launched the wiki's official twitter feed, today!
What you can expect:
-Important annoucements regarding the wiki (downtimes, etc)
-Retweet of Mario news and annoucements
-A spotlight on...
I don't know if the mariowiki forum has a major techie population or whatever, but hey, what can I lose (other than the time spent writing this, I guess).
I own a Playstation 2 slim (scph-7500 model), and for some reason, the DVD-based games don't "snap in" easily on the spindle; I have to...
The 1993 live-action movie spawned a webcomic fan sequel, but with a twist: it was supervised by one of the original writer of the film:
It's currently mentioned on the wiki on a section of the SMB movie page because well, it's kinda worth mentioning, but here's the deal: if an important staff...
Gamefaqs is not a bastion of quality, erm, anything, but I can't help but have minor nostalgia for its user reviews back when it focused more of them. Thanks to the average reviewer's questionable litteracy, penchant for insane statements, and complete inability to describe the game in a...
Many good monkeys died that day.
*Do you agree with the increasingly popular revisionist notion that the Manky Kongs were justified to rebel against the Primate Alliance?
*On that note, can the repression of the Pinneapple ghetto rebellion be considered a war crime?
*Do you think Kremling...
In 2012, I remember seeing a picture of NOA's headquarter. It was a framed letter with a statement among the lines of "Nintendo of America would like to thank Game Informer/Players for their fair and balanced review of Mario Party", signed by Minoru Arakawa and Howard Lincoln, NOA's two top...
I noticed the [wiki] tag used to directly link to wiki articles doesn't work (here's an example) on my end and is no longer in the preset buttons when making a post. Am I somehow the only one affected by this, and if not, is there any reason as to why the functionality was removed?
The standards for naming pages on the wiki, particularly those relating to enemies and items, are a bloody mess. If something is not named in the game itself, you can bet the name won't be sourced and that it will be impossible to infer where it comes from. This needs to change.
Lol. Who cares...
It's been recently reported that Capcom is doing a location test for a Luigi's Mansion arcade game. No media or description of the game has surfaced beyond a picture of the cabinet.
Though it's not like we're ever going to play it, eh?
U.S screenwriter Max Landis (best known for the movie Chronicles and the Spider-Man fanfic The Shocker:Legit) recently made public an abortive 436 pages (!) script for a Mario movie feat. Banjo-Kazooie cameo, Wario reimagined as a slavist named "Wallace" and um, just read it.
Still, it's...
