Mmmm, I really think we should reserve judgement until we see the rest of the generation designs. I personally don't see the problem with those three, I always feel the new gen is sleeker than the previous one. I still remember how smooth and sleek Gen 3 looked compared to first two gens and having the same feelings for the starters of each subsequent gens. I think Sobble and the bunny do have small designs too, not seeing where they don't.

I do think the first Gen has an "old" feel to it. I can't put it in words but we have creatures like Kangaskahn, Rhydon, Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, those kinda have that 1990s creature look to it. Again, I can't articulate but I hope someone knows what I mean.

I know what you mean. Rough, somewhat crude, and not wholly sure where it wants to land on the ugly-vs-cute spectrum, but appealing nonetheless, potentially stemming from said attributes.

Is that about it?

Yeah, I think so. It certainly doesn't feel established, the creature designs feel a little generic in Gen 1.

I heard that for Red and Green, they skipped the concept art stage almost entirely and went straight into spriting for many of them.

I guess that explains why Mew's original sprite looks very unsettling.

Literally the intent. That whole cloning theme with MewTwo is based around that. They dialed back the disturbingness while slightly keeping the fetal aspect later.

They initially remade them (mostly through slight edits) for Japanese Blue, and those graphics were used for overseas Red and Blue. Yellow had them redrawn entirely to look like their anime appearances.

I do hope that this time I can use both Joy-cons when playing in docked mode, one of the things that annoyed me a little bit about Let's Go was that weird singular vertical Joy-con control scheme.

Pokemon Bow would fit more. Or maybe quiver, so one's for attack, one's for defense, and one's for containment.

Well, we are overdue for a Pokemon that's a gun. :P

On the other hand, maybe this generation, we'll get a proper car Pokemon, I've been waiting too long.
