Differences between VS. Arcade Mario and the NES version
« on: November 18, 2018, 12:19:21 AM »
The wiki doesn't mention this trick I remember from the arcade VS. version:

If you defeated Bowser and waited to jump on the ax when the timer was at 000. the timer bonus would count down from 999.

Anybody else remember this?

List of Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels glitches

Quote
999 Timer
This works in all versions, as well as the SNES version of Super Mario Bros.. In any castle level, if an axe is touched while the timer is at 0, it will loop to 999 and award the player 50,000 points. However in the non-castle levels, if a flagpole is touched while the timer is at 0, no points are awarded at all.
Supposedly doesn't work in the NES version of SMB1, but does work in the SNES version, as well as all versions of SMB2.  I guess it works in the arcade port of SMB1, too.

Ah, thanks! I didn't read the Lost Levels entries—guess I should have seeing the connection between it and the VS. game.

I'll add a line saying that it also works in the SMB1 arcade port.  Feel free to edit anything you feel needs it; it is a wiki, after all!
