Let's discuss about TGA 2017's nominees category winners.
Zelda: BotW won 3 out of 6 categories, and Mario Odyssey won 1 out of 6.
Notable games that won multiple award categories: Cuphead (3), Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice (3), Overwatch (2).

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will win Best Family Game (this is my opinion). I say that because out of all of the ones mentioned, MK8D is the only one for all ages (rated E) and is multiplayer. The others are okay to be family games, but I am leaning towards MK8D winning due to being the most family friendly game. The best though? Maybe. But, I am going to cheer for MK8D.

what's particularly good about odyssey's audio design lol

where the hell is knack 2, 0/10

we all know what the real game of the year will be though

I think that GOTY will remain a joke award for joke people but I'll entertain myself anyway.

I really don't think Odyssey will beat BoTW or Horizon: Zero Dawn.

I'm really hoping Cuphead gets best art direction.

Must be a real slow year for mobile games if super mario run is up there for an award.

Mobile gaming has been down the shitter recently, so I'm not surprised something like Super Mario Run has made the list.

I didn't know there's another nonMario nonNintendo version of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe being nominated for Best Family Game.

pretty sure fire emblem is a waifu simulator instead of a strategy game, that's why it's not nominated.

FE is more rpg then strategy these days if you ask me.

Did Fire Emblem release any games this year besides Warriors, which if im correct isnt a strategy game?

how so? just curious

You can cheese it really easy with the right character builds.

It's not devoid of strategy obviously but I feel your stats and classes are more important than the decisions to make during battle.

I like how the Best Family Game category contains Nintendo Switch games, including Sonic Mania (a multi-platform release, but it's also on Switch). There's also something to like about how that Best Handheld Game are all 3DS releases, including Poochy and Yoshi's Woolly World (a game released at mid January) and Ever Oasis (a new Nintendo property). It's also great to see that Nintendo's newer properties get some representation, namely the aforementioned Ever Oasis, ARMS and Splatoon 2.

Since Super Mario Run was released in December last year, it wouldn't have been eligible for the Game Awards of 2016 (games had to be released at 24th November 2016 to be eligible), I believe they include releases for December last year since that way, they aren't left out of the Awards for being released late that year. I couldn't find a source where they confirmed this, but if there's an example to be presented for such a case, Super Mario Run would be it.

If you're meaning to say that Super Mario Run is an unlikely candidate not for its release date but because of the game itself, I think one advantage that Super Mario Run has is notability, and I would have to say the game is designed really well so it's not undeserved. I am more surprised to see that there are two games nominated for Mobile game (Old Man's Journey and Hidden Folks), but are in fact releases found on the PC platform also, so they are not exclusively mobile.

Thank you for reading.
