Running a Steam game gives "fatal error"

Right click on the game in your library, go to properties, then select "local files" and hit "Verify integrity of game files".

Ah, it's up to date when I check.
 
It's also worth nothing I'm running Steam on Wine, and the device it's failing to initialize seems to be this.
 
Go into Device Manager and see if there are any updates for the device

Wine doesn't have that kind of option.
