Greetings everyone, and welcome to the Mario Boards Super Smash Bros. for Wii U tournament! I am your host, Alex95! I don't know where I'm going with this introduction, so let's just get to the rules!

Rules
  • 1 on 1
  • 3 stocks
  • 5 minute matches
  • Best 2 of 3 matches
  • Swiss Styled Tournament
  • No items
  • No mods or hacks of any kind (Sorry Glowsquid)

Viable Stages
  • Battlefield
  • Big Battlefield
  • Final Destination
  • Smashville
  • Town and City
  • Kongo Jungle 64
  • Dream Land 64
  • Lylat Cruise
  • Duck Hunt
  • Any Omega Stage
  • Gentleman's Rule

Character Limitations
  • Custom characters are not allowed
  • Palutena must have the 1, 1, 1, 1 moveset
  • Mii's are allowed, but they must have the 1, 1, 1, 1 moveset with no Equipment

Now then, I assume you all want to actually partake in this tournament. Well, you're in luck! All you have to is post your username here on the Mario Boards, your Mii Name, your Nintendo Network Identification (NNID), and your time zone, which will make it easier for you and your opponent to assign times, in that order. Also, be sure you have "Accept Friend Requests" turned on in your friends list settings. Hoping to have at least 16 participants, the sign-ups for which will last until July 9th, and the actual tournament itself will start on July 10th! At least 16 people is what I'm hoping for, but I can probably include more than that. Once everyone and everything is set up, the tournament will be posted on Challonge and a link will be posted here in the opening post.

This will be a Swiss styled tournament, meaning you earn points based on your performance. In best 2 of 3 matches, you will earn 2 points for every win, 0 points for a loss, and both will earn 1 point in the event of a tie match. All players will move through five rounds, and the next round will begin once all matches have been played. After 3 rounds have passed, a winner will be declared.

Once you have been assigned a dueling partner, you must work out a time to battle each other. If a week has passed with no result from either of the participants, they both receive a total of no points and will move to the next round so as to keep things moving. However, if you have messaged your opponent and they do not respond by the following Sunday, then tell me and you will move through unopposed with an added four points (as if you won 2-0). Do try to contact your opponent as early as you can.

I did have Wii Fit Studio, but was told the walk-off edges might be a turn-off. I tried to choose the stages with the least amount of gimmicks. I personally don't mind what stage I fight on, but I know there are few people don't like due to hazards *cough*Wily Castle*cough*Great Cave Offensive*cough*. ...Ahem.

Alex, shouldn't your time zone be marked PDT and not PST? Or does your part of the state not do daylight's saving for some reason?

It's not ignorance, just making certain it would be clear for anybody signing up. 👍

Update on time: Sign-ups will go until July 1st and the tournament will start on July 10th (so you (and I) can enjoy a nice 4th of July week if you celebrate it!) and go until however long it needs to take, though preferably before the end of August.

Before you guys go "oh no Timmy's here now GG"

Nah Im not partaking in tournaments this year cause you guys are all scrubs I switched internet last fall but still have yet to have a consistent connection with it (despite moderately quick speed and no one else Using it AND being wired). For the sake of not lag switching others, I will pass, sadly. Also somewhat off topic but i will also pass on Gen 7 Pokemon tourney as I am not interested in it competitively. I've also been dealing with a bunch of other things atm, some personal. Sorry~

May I suggest tho, that Big BF not be a choice? BF already has giant blastzones and big BF just prolongs KOing and encourages more camping, with the numerous plats being a bit annoying to manuever around (have fun trying to catch a campy Sonic there). I feel Big BF is just meant for 8 players, but you aren't doing that online. =P

Maybe. If more people feel it could be an issue, then I'll remove it.

I'll leave the sign-ups open as there's still some spots left to fill, but we're for sure starting on the tenth!

Re: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Tournament - Let the battles begin!
« Reply #18 on: July 11, 2017, 03:21:32 PM »
So I'm a day late.

Combatants! The time has come to take to the arena! However, due to the uneven amount of participants, I have dropped myself from the bracket to keep things going smoothly.

Now then, the tournament has been posted here on Challonge, and once your battles are over, you are to give me the results so I can update the brackets, either by posting in this thread or by way of message. Again, the matches will be best 2 out of 3 and this is a Swiss-styled tournament.

So, who's fighting who?

freakworld vs. Ninelevendo
4td0 vs. fantanoice
Luigi 64DD vs. Cirdec

Please make sure your matches are done by the end of July 18th, though if an extension is needed, please let me know.
