For the first time since 1799, there are no living people born in the 1800s

RIP Emma Morano. She lived through WWI, Mussolini's dictatorship, WWII, the establishment of an Italian republic, the Years of Lead, and the rise and fall of Berlusconi.

(However, there are still two people alive born in 1900, which is part of the 19th century due to there not being a year 0).

I remember reading the news about Jiroemon Kimura a few years ago.

Interesting read, thanks for sharing the link.

I was actually in Italy when this woman turned 116. There was an article in Torino's newpaper about her.

Crazy fact about the new oldest living person, Violet Brown. She has a son who is 97 and still living, making him the oldest living person with a living parent. What's more is that his birthday is today, so Ms. Brown gets to celebrate her son's birthday and becoming the oldest living person.
