How do you play Smash?

Magikrazy

Donkey Kong
What is your preferred way to Smash?

I usually set two or three stock and turn off the items. But occasionally, I'll turn on Pokéballs and have a Pokémon battle with my opponent. I especially enjoy doing this on Pokémon Stadium or Pokémon Stadium 2.

3 or 4 stocks, low or no items (Usually low when I'm playing by myself)

Super Smash Bros.: 4 people, 17 minute match, items with Very High, explosives on (Bob-ombs, Motion Sensor Bombs), any "character" stage (ie Samus gets killed on Saffron City, Captain Falcon on Yoshi's Island, etc), Donkey Kong is always at least a CPU opponent.

Super Smash Bros. Melee: 4 people, 17 minute match, Giant Melee Special Smash, 2.0 damage ratio, items on Very High (Bob-ombs, Motion Sensor Bombs, Green Shell, Red Shell, Super Mushroom, Screw Attack, Warp Star), any "character" stage (Donkey Kongs get killed in Brinstar Depths, Marth gets killed on Mute City, Luigi in Kongo Jungle 64, etc. Play with no music.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl: Let's skip vBrawl annnnd

Project M: 4 people, 17 minute match, Stamina Mega Smash, 2.0 damage ratio, no blast lines, items on Very High (Bob-ombs, Motion Sensor Bombs, Smart Bombs, Crates, Deku Nuts, Blast Boxes, Gooey Bombs, Lightning Bolts, Super Mushrooms, Poison Mushrooms, Warp Stars, Pitfalls). Wario is always a CPU opponent, and there are some "character" stages (Kirby and ROB get killed in Flat Zone, Peach in Norfair, Baby Luigi in Port Town Aero Drive, etc.)

Super Smash Bros. for 3DS: 4 people, 17 minute match, items on (Bob-ombs, Motion Sensor Bombs, Smart Bombs, Crates, Deku Nuts, Blast Boxes, Gooey Bombs, Super Mushrooms, Warp Stars, Pitfalls, Boss Galagas, Beetles, Bombchus, X Bombs, Hocotate Bombs, Bullet Bill, POW Block, Fire Bar, Rocket Belt, Tanooki Leaf, Super Scope, Spiny Shells, Daybreak), some "character" stages (kill Pac Man in Wily Castle, kill Samus in Mute City, kill Duck Hunt in Find Mii, etc). Play with no music.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U: 8 player Smash, 17 minute match, items on (Bob-ombs, Motion Sensor Bombs, Smart Bombs, Crates, Deku Nuts, Blast Boxes, Gooey Bombs, Super Mushrooms, Warp Stars, Pitfalls, Boss Galagas, Beetles, Bombchus, X Bombs, Hocotate Bombs, Bullet Bill, POW Block, Fire Bar, Rocket Belt, Tanooki Leaf, Super Scope, Spiny Shells, Daybreak, Smash Ball, Fire Bar, Cuccos), some "character" stages (kill Peach in Pyrosphere, kill Kirby and ROB in Flat Zone X, etc)

I'm mentally insane.

I feel like Baby Luigi and I are the total antithesis to how a lot of people play Smash.

People should play against 7 computer players in one team in a timed match, all with Team Attack on and -2 SD penalty. It's hilarious how much minus points they can get. I don't think you even have to get any KOs to win there, you can just stand there and jump around.

SSB4: Three-stock, 8-minute match, Smash Balls on
stages: anything pretty much, choosing taken in turns. i usually end up picking Colusseum with YOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUU ARRRRRRRRRE THE OCCCCCCEANNNNNNNNNNNS GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEESSSSSSSS

occasionally when we get bored we turn all items on and strike one of them after each match

also corrin for days

Usually, timed matches (generally ~5 minutes) with low items. I don't find it fun to sit out of a stock match and just watch everyone else play.

I also think 8-player Smash works better as timed, not stock, particularly its free-for-all. Or Free-For-Alls in general. There is just too many stuff going on and you can't really afford to play like a coward as how timed matches do in 1 v 1s.

Melee: 4 players, 4 stock, no items.

Brawl: 4 players, usually timed, all items, maybe throw in some Special Smash.

Project M: 2-4-players, 4 stocks, no items.

Smash 4: 2 players, 2-3 stock, no items OR 4-or more, items or no items, timed.

It varies so much.

I play Melee competitively. 2 players, 4 stocks, no items, 8 minute timer. Battlefield, Yoshi's Story, Dreamland, Fountain of Dreams, Final Destination, and Pokemon Stadium only. Doubles with friendly fire on. Believe it or not, it's more than a "Fox only, FD only" meme.

I always wonder why Smash 4 is generally 2 stocks and Melee is 4 stocks. I'm guessing that Melee is more aggressive/Smash 4 is more defensive and more forgiving?

Mixture of longer combos, much worse recovery, more precise movement favoring aggressors, safer aerials, and tradition (Melee would probably be OK with 3 stocks but we've ran 4 stocks forever).

It's actually 3 stocks in most of the European Smash 4 tournaments.

I play with competitive rules and stages throughout each Smash game (so your basic 2-4 stock with 8 mins timer) but I don't mind some of the formerly banned stages either (Delfino, Castle Siege, hell even Yoshi's Woolly World). I love doubles too (much preferably in person cause I can actually communicate with my partner lol, online dubs get pretty silly), even though I still have more to learn about it (considering my playstyle is more 1v1 oriented), I love doing some crazy combos in co-op with a partner!

I don't actually enter Melee tourneys (bar a few occasions but I mostly play Melee friendlies); the only reason I play it is cause of college friends, although I'm that scrub that doesn't wavedash/L-Cancel and somehow still play decently (and apparently I have a great Turnip pull rate with Peach in Melee). =P
