Ad banners appearing on screen

Whenever I go on most sites, an unwanted ad banner appears at the side of the screen for some reason
I had the issue on my old laptop to, does anyone know how they might have ended up on there.
 
Sounds like some sort of malware, but to be sure:

- What browser are you using
- Which websites are affected
- What websites have you been visiting (you and your pr0nz lily)
- What browser extensions do you have installed
- What other programs do you have installed

Its on chrome
I downloaded an add blocker extension though, and it now seems to be fine.
 
Try to look in your extensions and add-ons and remove any you don't recall installing
