Recently. I have an issues pertaining to images like this:

These images are deleted, but they used to be terrible images

It's not the proper way of ripping models from the game. It's ugly, unprofessional, and, in most cases, badly anti-aliased. I think it's better, in most cases, to simply leave the background there and not bother cropping subjects out at all.

These are fine though

But ideally, I think the models section should look something like this:

(I know these images I want are those uploaded by me/my sister, but that's not my ---ing point)

My point is that I think these sections need serious clean-up. If you want to take better images of models, download some models from The Model's Resource or something and download Blender, an open-source, free 3D modeling program.

I'd totally be ok with deleting hideous shit like those first three images. Kill it with fire.

Yes, things like those should go. Already we tend to delete very poor/blurry quality images for their lack of usefulness and practical value.

I took the first steps and removed links to these images. Now, can we please eradicate these pukes from the wiki? There are some images I'm not sure, though.

Yes I have had the urge to do something about it but I just never did. The models that need to go are mostly Super Mario 3D World and New Super Mario Bros. U "models".

There are a few Galaxy and Galaxy 2 ones and a few New Super Mario Bros. Wii models that are crappy but I think I can get better ones for NSMBW.

Galaxy models are entirely possible, but any Wii U games are not

Wii U models aren't rippable, that's why. Yet. If you want an image so badly, just take a screenshot of them, crop it out, and leave the background on there.

Oh.

Well if they can send people into outer space, then I'm sure ripping Wii U models could be made possible sometime soon.

Everything becomes possible at one point. Everything is hackable. Everything has an exploit. As for now, though, it's not possible to read or rip Wii U contents

Yeah, you have to respect your hackers. Most aren't even bad people.

Anyway, what about slightly better images such as the remaining ones from Super Mario 3D World. Like this one?

Also,
MarioSMG.png
doesn't appear to be THAT bad, but once you consider it's taken directly from a thumbnail from the Model's Resource, it's questionable to leave the image there. But at least it looks decent and those that want Mario in their signature can put it there... I guess? Unlike the horrible images.

I'm not fond of it because they're taken from a screenshot, cropped, and tagged as "lol it's a 3D model". Take lighting and bloom effects and it's not good to just simply crop the models out of the pictures.

I like that Rosalina one. It's clean and not horrible like the others. And why must we get too fussy? I'm fine with scrutinizing the obvious, but must we get technical when it comes to the "model" business?

Well, I guess that will suffice, but it will never beat a clean rip of a render in a 3D modeling program

I want to keep the Rosalina one as well because at least I can find use for it (texture hacking and decorating my signature). Cropped renders like this one, I think are fine.

I did this one myself. While my sister may advocate getting direct models, the biggest problem is simulating the extra rendering effects the games do, so taking renders from screenshots are the next closest thing you can get to a model directly from a game. This is where emulators (when the game is stable) come in handy.

I don't get why people think emulating is so bad (getting the ROMs is illegal, sure), but emulators have done so much to benefit MarioWiki, so I'm greatly looking forward to when the Wii U gets cracked and there are stable emulators that can replicate the Wii U's glory so we can get some nice images for our wiki.

Well, if it's the poses you are concerned about, some models do come with their animation files so when you view them in something like, say Brawl Box, you can see and take a picture of their pose without any other background or thing. Pretty cool, right? I should do that for the Trick article

It's not poses. It's lighting and shaders and that stuff. You can replicate it, but you don't know how... yet.

Well that's another problem of ripping models: sometimes, you get a pic of character in like, a sunset render, and it doesn't look good when you crop it out. Placing it in a neutral setting is basically the model in its raw state.
