Entertainment & Media / D&D 2: Electric Boogaloo
« on: September 03, 2017, 01:30:29 PM »
Hey, so since we have so many people and my irl group bailed on me, I suddenly have lots of D&D prep that I need to put to use or I'll feel like I wasted way too many hours of my life.

So I'm now accepting signups for a Dungeons and Dragons (5th Edition) campaign! If you want to join, I need you to:
  • Read through The Basic Rules, or at least enough to understand what's going on.
  • Post below (or PM me) what times (UTC) you're available.
  • Make an account on roll20.
Once I have enough signups (looking for a 3-5 person party), I'll create a game and we can get started setting things up (creating characters, explaining rules, and so on).

So I'm not sure how many of you are aware of this, but this is the game that's slowly been taking over the MW community.

This is a PC game that's based off RTS and RPG where you control one hero on a team of five and try to defeat another team of five heroes. It's known for being a extremely difficult but ridiculously fun game if you get into it (I just hit 100+ hours last night).

Anyways, what are you guys' favorite heroes? I personally like playing as either a support like Crystal Maiden or a ganker like Nyx Assassin and Slark.

Entertainment & Media / Brave New World
« on: April 29, 2014, 04:52:55 PM »

This is one of the best books I've ever read. Unlike 1984 (which I found to be unrealistic and pointless), Brave New World actually makes sense and raises far more questions about what's right for humanity and freedom and passion vs stability and happiness. And leaves the answers up to the reader. It's so much better, take that George Orwell (although i still love animal farm).

also it's a much better society than 1984's

Anyways, anyone else read this book? What did you think?

Off-subject Discussion / General Science Discussion Thread!
« on: February 04, 2014, 09:04:34 PM »
So to avoid clogging up the "If you click here, you must post here" thread I've decided that we should have scientific debate in a separate thread.

So here we go! Right now we're talking about evolution vs creationism, because of the debate between Bill Nye (representing evolution) and Ken Ham (representing creationism).

and in the name of all that is good please no bashing of other people in this thread, that's how they get locked

EDIT: the story of sharks in this thread can be summed up as this:
So what sciency thing are we talking abou—

Oh, it's this conversation again.

Handheld Gaming / 31 Pokemon Challenge
« on: January 13, 2014, 11:52:32 PM »
So apparently there's this thing where people post 31 Pokemon over the course of 31 days to show what their favorites are. I decided that's stupid and takes too long, so this will be a thread where you can just list your 31 favorites of each kind.

Oh, and you can't repeat any Pokemon. For example, my overall favorite would be Weavile, so I would have to pick something else for Favorite Dark type.

My list would be:
1. Favorite Bug type - Escavalier
2. Favorite Dark type - Krookodile
3. Favorite Dragon type - Haxorus
4. Favorite Electric type - Magnezone
5. Favorite Fairy type - Floette
6. Favorite Fighting type - Gallade
7. Favorite Fire type - Braixen
8. Favorite Flying type - Crobat

Here I resolve to answer any and all questions you may have about Pokemon. How something works, whether I think what you're doing is a good idea, is this Pokemon good at battling, what's my opinion on this Pokemon, etc.

Ask away!

Video Games / The General RTS Genre Thread
« on: July 27, 2013, 10:26:29 PM »
Okay, I have to put this out there.

RTS as a genre seems to have fallen out of the spotlight, and many people avoid playing these games because of the high learning curve. But I personally am a huge fan of the genre. My personal faves would have to be Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance, Empire at War: Forces of Corruption, and Battle for Middle-earth.

What are you guys' favorite RTS games?

Handheld Gaming / Favorite Pokemon from each Generation?
« on: July 06, 2013, 11:48:48 PM »
What are your favorites from each generation?

You can like them for any reason, like appearance, battling ability, typing, whatever.

My favorites:

Gen I: Blastoise. Such a cool design. A turtle. With GUNS. Also I have to admit there's some nostalgia here, as Squirtle was my first.
Gen II: Crobat. Also a cool design. Not too shabby in battling, too.
Gen III: Metagross. Cool design. Cool typing.
Gen IV: Weavile. This is my favorite Pokemon of all. Everything about him is just... cool. I like Dark types. And Ice types. He's got the whole ninja thing going for him, kind of a fragile speedster - which is my favorite kind of fighter.
Gen V: Escavalier. Probably the only Bug-type I like. He's got the whole knight thing, which is a nice design.

Off-subject Discussion / Your favorite Youtuber?
« on: July 02, 2013, 10:49:59 AM »
You know what I'm talking about. That one person whose channel you check fairly often for more videos.

I personally am a fan of Joshscorcher (The Fiery Joker). He makes awesome video game Top Whatever countdown videos, often in collaboration with a few other gamers. They're hilarious.

He also reviews MLP episodes with hilarious commentary. (And no, he's not a hater. He's somewhere in the middle. Your mileage may vary on where exactly.)

Off-subject Discussion / Are you a summer or a winter person?
« on: June 30, 2013, 11:53:52 PM »
An interesting question.

Personally? I'm a winter person. I can't stand the heat. Or the beach. Or the humidity.

My idea of a good time is skiing and taking a nice walk outside as snow falls. I don't know why. I should enjoy summer, living in the Southeast.

Forum Games / The Great Epic Forum Game of Epicness
« on: March 28, 2013, 11:13:00 PM »
So I got fed up with the casual nature of the Control the Throne game and decided to make my own more awesome version. So what?

The main objective of this game: to create the most epic story of all time. The first person to post (that is, me) will start a grand story. The next user will then follow-up that post with a continuation of the story, but with the same epic theme. You are completely allowed to resolve plot points, add new ones, introduce characters, etc - but it has to follow the theme of the story so far (i.e. you can't re-introduce a character that has already been killed off) and it needs to be relevant.

Having a long post to continue the story is not required, but your post got to have depth.

I'll start this.

The Chimaera, Unknown Area of the Milky Way Galaxy

Grand Admiral Thrawn strode onto the bridge and Pellaeon instantly snapped to attention. As Thrawn settled down in his command chair, the Ysalimir and nutrient frame he always carried with him around his neck, Pellaeon began to feel his anticipation rise. Finally, their campaign could begin. The search for Earth had delayed them for some time, but finally it had been located and the Imperial fleet assembled. Their mission: to capture for the Emperor the legendary seven jewels that would be needed to power his greatest starship to date - the Eclipse-class Star Destroyer.

Thrawn looked towards Pellaeon. "Are all ships assembled?"

"Of course, sir. Twenty Star Destroyers are currently standing by for orders, along with all ten Interdictors. Not to mention the Victory Star Destroyers, Nebulon frigates, and other assorted support craft. All forces are waiting only for your command."

Thrawn smiled. "And soon, we shall have the power to bring the Rebellion to its knees... It is time. Give the order Captain. It's time to change history."

He turned his red eyes out into space, in the direction where countless light-years away a small planet would about to be hit by a force beyond its power to comprehend. And watched as the starlines began to streak, and the vast fleet began its journey...

Status of the story:
Heroes: (none as of yet)
Villains: Thrawn, Galactic Empire; (add as needed)
Objective: Capture of the Chaos Emeralds

Entertainment & Media / Rick Riordan's totally awesome series thread
« on: December 26, 2012, 09:51:37 PM »
I searched but I didn't really find a thread like this, so here we go!

You'd probably have to have been living under a rock to not have heard of these book series, that combine modern-day society and Greek mythology. The Kane Chronicles moves to modern Egyptian mythology, and the most recent series combines both Greek and Roman.

Anyways, I am a huge fan and recently read The Mark of Athena. Anyone else here a big fan? Discuss.

So this was 22's idea but it's really the best way to solve the debate.

The question is, are you happy with the mafia system (rules, administration, guild, etc.) or would you like changes? I for one believe a board moderator system would work better. Turb and Uniju would like the schedule system removed. Nabber would like to leave everything as it is.

But those are just the voices of a few users. It's up to you all, the community, to decide how you would like things to be run. So voice your opinions here!

(also if this belongs in mafia or something, please move. i figured it should go here though since it's a mafia game or something)

Handheld Gaming / Pokemon Showdown
« on: September 15, 2012, 02:31:54 PM »
Does anyone besides me use this regularly? I just found it yesterday and it's lots of fun.

Here's a battle I had, completely online.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I could have done better this game, especially by hitting the predictable Bronzong with Icicle Crash instead of Ice Shard, but it was a good game.

So this is basically a pretty cool idea that I've been thinking about recently: a story in which the users are the trainers going around the Unova region. I've already got a bunch of good ideas ready to go, but I need to know who I'll be writing about to start this thing off.

Consider this Pokemon Black and White versions, but like the anime - you can bring Pokemon (up to four) from other regions with you on this adventure.

To sign up, simply PM (this way the battles and Pokemon you catch will be a surprise to everyone) me a sign-up with the following:
Your trainer's name and personality.
The six Pokemon you'd like to use, with moves and personalities for each.
Anything else I request. I promise it won't be anything major.

A word of advice: Signing up first does not guarantee that you'll appear. I'm going to choose the most interesting and detailed sign-ups and use those in the story.
