Mario vs Sonic Rio 2016 Multiplayer issues

I am hoping someone can help. I just got my daughter the Mario vs Sonic Rio game. I am trying to play multiplayer but it will not let me select 2, 3 or 4 players. I have paired one toggle remote and the Wii U Pro remote. However, it only looks like the toggle is showing up. Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong?

Have you checked that the pro controller is compatible with the game? It might only accept Wii remotes and the Gamepad, if that's the controller not showing up.

you need to sync your Wii U Pro Controller with the Wii U. This is done by pressing the red button on both the Wii U and on the Pro Controller.

If it won't show up, Yoshi876 might have your answer: Mario & Sonic may not be compatible with the Wii U Pro Controller.
